vvvslaxman Posted March 21, 2011 Posted March 21, 2011 Our batsmen's performance in the last 4 years while chasing http://stats.espncricinfo.com/ci/engine/stats/index.html?batting_fielding_first=2;class=2;filter=advanced;orderby=runs;spanmax1=21+Mar+2011;spanmin1=21+Mar+2007;spanval1=span;team=6;template=results;type=batting WHILE CHASING http://stats.espncricinfo.com/ci/engine/stats/index.html?batting_fielding_first=1;class=2;filter=advanced;orderby=runs;spanmax1=21+Mar+2011;spanmin1=21+Mar+2007;spanval1=span;team=6;template=results;type=batting WHILE SETTING TARGET
vvvslaxman Posted March 21, 2011 Author Posted March 21, 2011 Raina, Gauti, Yusuf, Kohli all 4 have significantly better chasing records. Quiet a conundrum. We can only pick 3 out of those 4.
Sid Posted March 21, 2011 Posted March 21, 2011 It looks like Gauti and Kohli dont like batting first
vvvslaxman Posted March 21, 2011 Author Posted March 21, 2011 ON the contrary Tendulkar, VIru, Yuvi, Dhoni have better records when we bat first. Dhoni is probably the only one who is doing it almost equally well.
Switchblade Posted March 21, 2011 Posted March 21, 2011 So its Gambhir Virat MS & YUVI WHO ARE KEY PLAYERS FOR INDIA WHILE CHASING IF WE REACH IN S.F THEN WE SHOULD CHASE
Switchblade Posted March 21, 2011 Posted March 21, 2011 Would drop Yusuf feel that Raina is much more consistent
vvvslaxman Posted March 21, 2011 Author Posted March 21, 2011 Would drop Yusuf feel that Raina is much more consistent Yup. We have very few samples supporting Yusuf. He sure played couple of blinders in recent times. But Raina has been doing it for a while.
ganeshran Posted March 21, 2011 Posted March 21, 2011 I think the tussle would be between Raina and YP. Both are batsman who can bowl a bit and are considered finishers. However both of them have some technical issues (YP against moving seam and Raina against bouncers). Its a challenge for the team which one to leave out.
Sid Posted March 21, 2011 Posted March 21, 2011 I thought Yuvi's average while chasing would be more but its not surprising :hmmm:

Raina has been there done that. Even in championship trophy but for the blind umpire Raina would have seen us through. He absolutely hammered Umar Gul.

Switchblade Posted March 21, 2011 Posted March 21, 2011 With Yusuf its no guarantee atleast with S.K you are confident that he will be much more reliable he with M.S are two key players when we chase
Cricket Tragic Posted March 21, 2011 Posted March 21, 2011 Some of those stats are inflated because of performances vs minnows (Raina and Dhoni). Here is the record chasing against the top teams. http://stats.espncricinfo.com/ci/engine/stats/index.html?class=2;filter=advanced;innings_number=2;opposition=1;opposition=2;opposition=3;opposition=4;opposition=5;opposition=7;opposition=8;orderby=runs;spanmax1=21+Mar+2011;spanmin1=21+Mar+2007;spanval1=span;team=6;template=results;type=batting
NareshK Posted March 21, 2011 Posted March 21, 2011 Raina is a crap bowler. I dont see any quality batsman having trouble scoring runs off him easily. Yusuf Pathan can at least bowl a few overs. He was effective against WI.

He was effective against WI. There is no major difference between their bowling, infact Raina has a knack of taking wickets or breaking partnerships

However both of them have some technical issues (YP against moving seam and Raina against bouncers). Its a challenge for the team which one to leave out. Raina just has to be selected over Yusuf as he has more experience and has been consistently performing for quite some timea nd I also think that he's a far better finisher than Yusuf. Yusf tends to play one blinding innings and then his bat goes silent for a long time. Raina is a better fielder and in bowling also, while Yusuf may go for a few less runs, Raina takes important wickets.
vvvslaxman Posted March 21, 2011 Author Posted March 21, 2011 With Yusuf its no guarantee atleast with S.K you are confident that he will be much more reliable he with M.S are two key players when we chase Raina on the field brings lot of energy to the whole side. Yusuf certainly earned his chances. Too harsh to judge him with few chances. But from all practical purposes we have to go for the experience.

Yusuf Pathan can at least bowl a few overs. He was effective against WI. So can Raina. Raina can be expensive. So can Yusuf. Neither of them are reliable. One is a darter. Other one relies on his pause just before release. It might or might not click for both. Think about the solidity he brings in to our batting line up. Considering our tail is possibly one of the worst tail in this world cup do you really risk Yusuf at 7. I didn't expect Bhajji would suck this bad with his batting in the world cup. I had hopes for him.
