I read someone say he got a standing ovation when he hit his century? That's not what I saw, actually heard a fair bit of booing. Anyways, you get what you give.. I'm an Aussie and I don't even like Ponting, but he is a champion player and a bit more respect was merited, regardless of how big a toss he can come across as.

It's pretty tardy of some people here to sit atop their thrones dissing the Ahmedabad crowds without acknowledging what Ponting himself has done to tarnish the repuation of the gentleman's game. He was applauded when he got his century, but he was still booed during the presentation ceremony. Why? The crowd wasn't suffering from bipolar disorder. They very clearly saw what was going on at the crease and didn't like it one bit. No one would. Save to say Indian crowds are far better behaved than some of the Aussie spectators I've had the displeasure of sitting with.

Could've thrown few missiles at him..Given the thick skin he has, and the way he was sportingly taking this defeat and praising the Indian team, he should've got some stones thrown at him for good effect. It was just booing for crying out loud. Have you ever bothered to wonder why other captains playing in India haven't got booed so far in the WC? The crowd still acknowledged his ton. Boo hoo, let's exorcise the evil crowds, flog them, and rid them of their demonic inclinations, shall we? 'Sportingly taking defeat' my ass :cantstop: He was so sporting, that's why he claimed a catch that never was, to name a few. Ponting is one of the greatest batsmen ever, but is he a great sportsman? Ponting got booed for good reason, and it's not like we can hop onto a time machine, turn back the clock, and force the crowd to give him white roses and farsan instead.

For all his anti India mutterings and his arrogance on the field and the pathetic chilidish behaviour for so many years, it's not a surprise that he gets booed on a number of grounds. Add to it the bump catch he claimed or his arguments with the umpire when Raina took a run off Haddin's misfield, you would not expect the crowd to cheer him for that. They did give him a thunderous applause whn he reached his 100, so they weren't baised at all. Just went by the events on the field especially in the 2nd half of the match.
