Good job Bangbros. Your team has let you down but to be frank they needed a reality check and they were not a force to reckon as they were made out to be. I hope Bangladesh team improves at least for the sake of the supporters which are quite huge and maybe better and more passionate about the game compared to Saffers, Aussies or the Poms. Nice job overall and the supporters love the game even more. However, do not expect too much as your team is not yet the top level and the hype was just false. Your team needs to calm down and play sensibly and you would develop a lot faster in the future. At least become a good cricketing nation for the sake of your fans. I always say that Bangladesh must be kicked out of test status due to their stagnancy in cricket and crappy performances for more than a decade but I would not say this time as your fans are also passionate and cricket crazy people like us and it would be a great disservice if the game they love is taken away from them. But improve soon as the level of improvements in more than a decade now has been extremely slow.[/quote'] overall it was a disappointing event for Bangladesh fans because we fell short of our goal of the quarterfinals. as such, it is in our best interest to brush off the world cup as "not that important" and refer to the lowpoints as "flukes". and that is a justifiable approach due to the fact that the WI qualified with the same number of points and lesser "quality" of wins. i think Bangladeshi fans should take heart from the fact that they garnered enough points to progress to the next phase in what was perhaps the strongest group in world cup history. two wretched performances with the bat stick out like sore thumbs in that otherwise-not-so-bad context. i would like to go ahead and argue those were due to some flukish combinations of choking under the pressures of the home crowd, with generally poor cricket that all lesser teams are prone to playing here and there. it should go without saying, but if being 58 and 78 all out where characteristic performances (and not "flukes") then how do you beat england, a team which defeated both teams who were involved in the 58 and 78? how do you beat an ireland side which beat that england side? how do you score 280 against one of the semi-final teams? there is no denying that 58 and 78 are statistical outliers, and even if you doubled each score, they would still most likely be statistical outliers. hence, any claim which requires an outlier to represent the quality of central tendency is laughably flawed. its just as statistically and logically valid to say that Bangladesh's 283 is characterisitic of their batting ability without taking into account factors such as flatness of the wicket, etc. i'd go out on a limb and say that Pakistan being shot out for 184 on a flat track against Canada's bowling is far worse than anything we did this tournament. and Pakistan is still in the semis. so i think its adequately fair to suggest that while the best 8 teams ended up in the Quarterfinals, had Andre Russel not gotten out and WI beaten England, that would still hold true as Bangladesh would stilll have made the QFs despite 58 and 78.

For teams like England, SA and other sides world cup may be an ultimate thing. But for bd i think test series wins are 100 times more important than a world cup. It is very very hard for them to win a world cup. You have to effect series of upsets. Even if you win it is no guarantee that you would do well in Tests. Once you start winning the tests you will gain confidence gradually.

I think they were a little too over hyped for their own good. It could have been better if they came in with low expectations with lesser pressure and a mindset of everything to gain. The collapse against Windies was a classic case of pressure of expectations getting to them. They could have qualified for the quarters ahead of WI/England.

Good point. If they had lost to WI by even 30 runs, they would have stood a good chance of reaching the quarter finals. But the unrealistic pressure got to them (understandably, they are a young team)

Yeah, I think the Bangla crowd was great, except when they went all hush when their team was facing defeat. You could literally hear yourself breathe then :cantstop: I really hope Bangladesh cricket improves tenfold come the next WC.

mirpur is one of the best stadiums in the subcontinent. bangladeshi fans are passionate, but its sad to see them walking out of the stadium when their team looks like its losing. u get one chance to host a world cup, it doesnt come around every year, at least stay there and support your team.

The 58 and 78 wasn't a fluke. If the fans nd the team management say so than we are doing a great disservice to the team. Our batting has been utter failure, the only thing that saved us was our bowling nd excellent fielding. Gota face the problems or u can't rectify them.
