Atleasy dont compare these heroes of fiction world with Heroes of real world who have contributed in things that acually matter , Amitabh Bachann giving superhit performances in Sholay or whatever other crap movie is no National achievement , its just a timepass for the usual bored public of India who have nothing better to watch . Manmohan has infact done quite a lot for India so agree there.

People tend to think that just because he was the finance minister who presented the liberalization policy, he was the one and only person behind it.

Yes but Sachin neither lost his integrity even during his lowest form. He did not respond when people accused him of being scared, he didnt respond when people wrote him off. He gave his best for the country day in and day out and responded to critics with his milestones. I like Manmohan Singh as a politician. He is incorruptible, but being surrounded by corrupt people and not taking action against them makes him implicitly guilty. The only problem is, anyone who replaces him might be far more corrupt.

But the greatest Indian ever? Not so sure of that. Our country has given birth to many extraordinary personalities from freedom fighters to politicians, to great kings from the past, philosophers, scientists, mathematicians, doctors (from the time of charate and sushruta), religious leaders, warriors, poets, artists and many more. To call Tendulkar the greatest Indian ever is a little too much.

Manmohan has infact done quite a lot for India so agree there. Cricket & Bollywood, for the common man are entertainment. That is the common denomination. Real or fiction or fixed doesn't matter. At the end of the day, cricket is also 'just a timepass for the usual bored public of India who have nothing better to watch/do'. And as a cultural ambassador for brand India, Bollywood in general and Amitabh Bachchan in particular have done wonders. More so than cricket has ever achieved or will achieve. We are talking about creating an awareness in different parts of the world about this wonderful country and culture called India in such a way that it is liked by commoners everywhere. Not saying that Bollywood has done a perfect job, but they've definitely done their bit. Why does cricket 'actually matter' and movies don't?

Whoever says acting is easy, should stand in front of the cam before you make such claims. Don't worry, rest of us will be laughing our @rses at you while you enact. You choozas need movies, music, sports, books, etc to pass your idle time. Respect the creators!

How did he 'stand against the might of the Soviet Union'? Just because he lived during the time when the Soviet existed, doesn't mean he faced them. BTW, I am standing against the might of America while posting this. So, am I the greatest Indian? :P BTW, This Vishy washy Anand hasn't yet managed to beat the ICF chess league dwiteeya champion. Yours truly. He's good no doubt, but not the greatest Indian currently living. FYI Anand won Reggio Emilla in 1992 the strongest tournament in history(in fact the first category 22 tournament) ahead of Karpov,Kasparov and the whole Soviet brigade at the age of 22. In tourneys in the late 80s and early 90s he was the only non Soviet Union player in the top 10. Please know your chess history and let your bias not cloud your rational thinking.

I would even go to the extent of saying he's the greatest sporting icon the world has ever seen, but i do not know enough about all the sports personalities, both past and present, to substantiate that claim. But besides that, its really unfair to single him out for eulogies, when we’ve had scores of illustrious personalities through the passage of our country’s history .

Anand was India's first GM. Today we have 24 GMs and a hot contender for Women's WC. All of them say their inspiration is Anand. Anand still helps most of them before they enter any tournament. He personally calls them and gives them advice. And please dont make me mad by taking the names of Bhutia,Paes,etc in the same sentence as Anand. Bhutia is a 3rd division English club reject,Paes isnt among the top 1000 players of all time. Anand is an all time great in his field. Among sportsmen, only SRT can be compared to him.
