vaibhav_delhi Posted March 31, 2011 Posted March 31, 2011 :hatsoff: Finals in his 1st ever ODI WC as captain. Wins in Australia n Asia Cup. Winner in first T20 WC. Takes india to Rank#1 in test matches. WL ratio nearly the greatest ever in the history of cricket. Ipl, CT for CSK. EDIT - Adding the stat: http://stats.espncricinfo.com/ci/engine/stats/index.html?class=1;filter=advanced;groupby=captains;orderby=win_loss_ratio;template=results;type=team Please add the quoted post in the opening post since the thread has been merged. Thnx
vaibhav_delhi Posted March 31, 2011 Posted March 31, 2011 Go read about Australia pre Allan Border. Nopes, I'd rather listen to what the old cricket fans and pros like richie benaud have to say abt dhoni and captaincy comparisons......
EnterTheVoid Posted March 31, 2011 Posted March 31, 2011 Nopes' date=' I'd rather listen to what the old cricket fans and pros like richie benaud have to say abt dhoni and captaincy comparisons......[/quote'] LOL. Dude, Australia's 15 odd year reign, BORDER STARTED IT. Go read about how crap they were pre Allan Border and how Border/Bob Simpson started it all.
Raghav_12 Posted March 31, 2011 Posted March 31, 2011 well, he is regarded as THE best captain in the world currently by comfortable margin by most cricket experts. Dont think its Over the Top to consider him as one of the greatest ever. Thats why this thread. And obviously, Test cricket > ODI cricket. It is world cup time dude and talk of ODI's (though I know Test Cricket is greater than ODI's) . Also if ODI's are so irrelevant, why did you kept piling millions of pages on Sachin's ODI's record in other threads? Dhoni is good but not greatest yet. He simply happens to have a great team.

I'd still like to read the comparisons with the best of the current lot i.e. MS Dhoni.
Raghav_12 Posted March 31, 2011 Posted March 31, 2011 Dhoni is not the greatest captain in the world. He will be the best indian captain if India wins the wc...he is extremly cool and calm and also has luck and great team on his side. Certainly the best man from the playing xi to lead us. But sooner or later, he'll have to justify his position in playing XI..

It was too time consuming.
pinkfreud Posted March 31, 2011 Posted March 31, 2011 Till about a week ago Dhoni was an ass of a captain, apparently, and now he's the best just because we won against Pakistan yesterday? Talk about fair weather fans.
glogirl Posted March 31, 2011 Posted March 31, 2011 dhoni dropping ashwin is a blessing in disguise. firstly nehra and munaf bowled well which boosted up their spirit and they picked it up at the right time. secondly for people who think ashwin's choice would have not favoured the match against pak let me tell some thing. this guy handles pressue well, he is cool and bowls well. and sure he would have also ended with 30+ and 2 wickets had he played.

rkt.india Posted March 31, 2011 Posted March 31, 2011 Ponting: Won the first world cup as captain Won Champions trophy Won test series in India, SA etc :hatsoff: not Ponting, it was Gilchrist the captain who captained in place of Ponting...
Andy Posted March 31, 2011 Posted March 31, 2011 Dhoni is the Greatest Captain, Batsman, Wicket Keeper, Bowler, Model, Actor, Security Guard, Chauki Dar. He is greatest even Human Being to have graced the earth. He is just the best at whatever he does.
rkt.india Posted March 31, 2011 Posted March 31, 2011 yaar we need conclusive evidence... not emotions, feelings and stuff like that. Give more statistics yaar, anything to prove your points :(( , maybe some batting records which no captain has, or something and regarding the ratio thingy, there are 7 captains ahead of him in the stats ur urslef provided :(( The biggest conclusive evidence is this team is no where near that Australia of Steve Waugh or Australia of 2004 except a few names in batting...still they rock and have not lost a test series in 2 years....
Zap_Brannigan Posted March 31, 2011 Posted March 31, 2011 I'll be damned. Nehra turned out to have the best figures in the match while Zaheer had the worst. I still think that dropping Ashwin was a huge blunder.

Time for you and a few others on this forum to eat the humble pie. Like always the more you lot have abused Dhoni, the bigger and better has been the comeback. Hope the anti-Dhoni brigade at ICF is now rooting for Team India for the finals after predicting that we will not go beyond the QF.

And I dont remember myself abusing Dhoni. I am not one of those who calls Names. And looks like some Fan boys take things too much to their Heart. :D

He will be the best indian captain if India wins the wc...he is extremly cool and calm and also has luck and great team on his side. Certainly the best man from the playing xi to lead us. this is not a great team..we have 2-3 great players nothing else other than that...if this team is great than what would you say to the team of Australia 1999-2007, WI 1980s...those were great teams where every player in the team was a champion on his own...and some potentially top class players could not get their due chances or got that later in their career because of the players playing in those teams were so good...... in this only SRT is a great player without a doubt...Viru will be called as a great when he finishes but not yet....no other player can be called a great in this team. They are all just good enough..some of these won't even be in 15 of those two great teams I have mentioned above.
