I vividly remember that Shastri knock against England. It was painful. Next game, I think when he was batting, other end Azhar was playing gem. He ordered Shastri to slog or get out, He was killing hte momentum. We were so happy when Shastri got out.

And I find it always funny that Shastri always shrieks about being aggressive while doing commentory. That 36 by sunny very closely followed by Shastri's 57. Shastri by the 90s was a misfit in the ODI team. Hell he was opening the bloody innings the situation was that bad. In the B&H 92 series, Srikkanth would provide a flying start and shastri would kill it. I think he once got a 35 ball 4 or something in that series.

I don't remember that much. But I remember he and kapil were used as hitters down the order against spinners. I have memory about Shastri, moving towards off stump to make some room to hit straight or over cover.

Guys, around 20 years ago, Cricket was miles different to what it is now. Just by looking at a scorecard on cricinfo doesnt make the innings horrendous. You have to understand that the level of cricketers back then (especially bowlers) was much higher back then. They were all genuine Test cricketers who had to play a slightly faster game. Runs were earnt back then.

How??? I can name atleast 20 players of that time that I wish could play in todays modern game but the sad reality is that those legends will never return because Test cricket isnt the same anymore.

Anyone who watched is not going to have a different opinon. Even in 1985.. he played very slowly in benson and hedges to get the Audi car. Srikkanth played unselfishly as he was also a hot contender. ravi shastri was sort of matchwinner in the 85-87 period. the assault on akram and co in the one dayer at hyderabad(the only one we won inthe series) by shastri and kapil was one of the best death over hitting i saw at that time. he had his limitations but for that time, he had some use ful hitting ability. gradually he started declining with ambitions of opening in tests. he won a one dayer vs SA in SA 1992 with a cameo one last time but his few last years, his popularity totally deteriorated.
