I have a question guys. The WC is hosted after every 4 years. How come the WC after 1987 was held in 1992? Why not 1991? Also, why was WC in 1999 held 3 years after 1996?

1999 was to compensate for the 5 year gap. However not sure about 1987-1992 gap.

I guess they wanted to play last the world cup of century ,thats why they choose 1999 and not 2000. I don't think 2000 olympics could be the reason for it .

I think they go by the cricketing season rather than going strictly by year in which it is played. For an example 87 WC happened in season 87-88 and 92 WC happened in 91-92 season. So there was no gap. Also 96 WC hapened in season 95-96 and 99 WC happened in season 99. I guess England cricket season being different from rest of the world has something to do with this problem. But nowadays with Cricket being played all across the year, this concept of seasons is becoming obsolete, particularly to common fans. Otherwise, I recall there used to be time in early 90's where there might not be any cricketing action for long durations like 3-4 months.
