rkt.india Posted May 17, 2011 Posted May 17, 2011 Look he has worked with his coach many times in the last 18 months, with the coach saying his technical faults have been rectified for the problems to resurface again. He did that before the domestic season this year, did that before the SL tour last year, but playing shorter formats ended up spoiling his action again. For someone as precious as him who is a potential leader of our test bowling attack, it will not be a bad idea to keep him away from the shorter formats for sometime. let him regain his confidence while playing the test matches, giving him time to mature further and then only starts playing him in ODIs 6-9 months later or perhaps even later. The same holds true even for Sreesanth. Both of the 'Sanths are our first choice test match bowlers and should not be playing shorter formats for sometime. Our ODI bowling attack till then can be managed by the likes of PK, Munna, Vinay, Dinda, Ashwin, Bhajji etc. I tell though he worked with his coach and others on his bowling in between but he only tried to improve his new style of bowling. Because in the last 2 years he had been bowling with a little bit different style than when he first came and he now went back to his old style as didn't get success with the new style. If you do not understand the technical things, listen what am I saying and I am saying all this since for the last 2 years about Ishant not just now. You can see i have posted all these things a lot of times in many a threads. I had also claimed in one thread that I can correct Ishant's technical problems in one week only. I had posted a video in an old thread of his old action of 2008 and new style when he was in WI ODI series after T20 WC in England comparing both those actions. You can yourself check that.

There are so many threads related to Ishant and Indian fast bowling on which I have explained why he has gone wrong in the last 2-3 years. He is another victim of over coaching and who tries to learn too much too early and in that process loses on his strength which brought him in the limelight and which got him that success he got in 2008. He had Akram at KKR, Prasad in Indian team though during Prasad's tenure he did well initially and then he went downhill also. We cannot blame any coach. It is the bowlers themselves who need to see what is godo for them and what not. I think it was Akram who asked him to bowl close to the stumps and get out swingers as in Ozzie tour in 2008, I had heard Akram a lot of times talking about these things to bowl close to the stumps for him in the commentary box, but this style did not suite him much.

Is considered a bit better than Umesh in control over line n lengthh So both r as expected at initial stage of career

Ysterday I went in to nets and I found a pacy guy..he ws genuinely fast for us as it was a total Green wicket and ball was skidding so fast, so I just played him standing in the crease .... Where as all other ballers were being hit for 4"s n 6 consecutively..even this guy was being scored off but not with firm hits and I was just in the crease, going on the front fOot was dangerous as I cud get a bouncer, n high rising Balls. He was bowling power balls which was shaking the hand even when we defended ... That's what happens with a genuine fast baller even other bowlers get wickets bcos batsmen don't play freely against pacers and stand in the crease and hit as per the merit of ball..if the ball is good they just defend. If umesh manages his line n length he will have a career else he is gone. Varun seems to be better as far as control is concerned

What I hear is he bowls between 120k to 127k regularly...even that is quick for me to face as its not the pace only which troubles but the bounce and the skid he gets from the greeen wicket... pace of 138 k or more is really good if the guy can maintain good line n length and what i really recommend to a fast bowler is to attack only on the wickets or on the 4th wicket. if a batsmen see the bowl rushing on the wickets with some boune ( not over pitched) he becomes a bit defensive and plays a defensive stroke to which one can set good fielding..... bowling outside offstump is like inviting Batsmen to hit you and today batsmen ( like me) target to hit outside off balls outside the park with good bats. i consider balling on the wickets as the best balls one shud try to do so as much as possible.
