youngindia Posted April 24, 2011 Author Posted April 24, 2011 LOL @ Badri >>>> Pollard :hysterical: Even the most ardent CSK supporter like Morris or Gunner would :hehe: on that it does not matter whetrh one is a csk or MI supporter or even SA or NSW supporter. :--D there is a west indian holding who said he does not consider him a cricketer :hysterical: its about about evaluating the defence of a batsman...pollard is techncially horrible and unlikely to average upto 30 in internationals. there maybe occasions where he comes off...but more often he won't. that's what a weak foundation does to you. even comparing to badri is a joke.
vvvslaxman Posted April 24, 2011 Posted April 24, 2011 MI are hot favorite.s no doubt man. You gotta accept considering their all round ability. There one department that will be tested only in the knock out stages. That is nerve department. That is where men will seperated from boys.

There one department that will be tested only in the knock out stages. That is nerve department. That is where men will seperated from boys. Mumbai Indians are like SA - great in the group games and then don't show up for the big games. I wouldn't have them as favorites for the title but they will definitely be one of the first teams to qualify for the knockouts. Somehow I don't have much faith in Tendulkar's captaincy and that will hurt in the knockouts.
youngindia Posted April 24, 2011 Author Posted April 24, 2011 We are shaking all right' date=' but its not because we are 'trembling with fear' but simply because we can't control our laughter after reading your deluded threads.[/quote'] The weaknesses are very real. take it as a chilling warning. according to you, you are only there to have a good time. you apparently could not care less about who wins or loses. and so why am i seeing this quote ? you do bother?
youngindia Posted April 24, 2011 Author Posted April 24, 2011 MI are hot favorite.s no doubt man. You gotta accept considering their all round ability. no real depth in bowling or batting. top heavy in both. hot favourites they are not. Tendulkar, Uthappa, Pollard, Rayudu, Tiwari, Duminy, Shikhar Dhawan i can answer why. but that is for another serious thread. This thread is targetted at the heart of Mi supporters :--D

I've read up about the previous IPL seasons recently and don't understand most threads and posts like this. Based on various posts, I thought that Chennai had won the IPL in all 3 seasons. So the bold bit is based on 1 season? Comparing them to SA who have failed in tournaments over 20 years? Chennai-choked in semis and final Mumbai-choked in final Bangalore-choked in semis twice and a final :hmmm: Trying to analyse a T20 tournament, let alone a groub of club exhibition matches, is pointless. Let's conclude that they're all rubbish teams playing a rubbish format. :two_thumbs_up: PS: The word choke is used to mean losing a knockout even if you are completely outplayed. Stupid and incorrect but that's how it is sadly used by most people.

I mean with bowlers like Zaheer, Malinga and Harbhajan and batsmen like Tendulkar, Duminy, Pollard, Rayudu, Jayasuriya etc. in the earlier seasons they should have performed much better. Same thing happened in Champions League. They were probably the strongest IPL team and were the only one who was not able to get to the semis!!! But we are deviating from the topic as I believe Mumbai has all the talent they need - definitely more than "just 4 batsmen" but somehow they don't do justice to it. One reason is Tendulkar's captaincy which IMO he should give up.
Holysmoke Posted April 24, 2011 Posted April 24, 2011 Mumbai had really crappy Indian players. Thats why they did so badly in seasons 1 and 2. Season 1 was a nightmare. Sachin was injured, bhajji became captain, but got banned because he slapped Sree, etc etc. Season 2 was better, but still the local talent was quite weak. Season 3, they got Zaheer, Rayudu, Tiwary, Dhawan, Pollard etc, and thats where the fortunes changed.

I don't really care since I don't support a team. :cantstop: It just that it doesn't make sense since they don't have the worst knockout record. Before this season, I hadn't even watched 1 match. I was informed a few days back on this forum that Chennai hadn't won all 3 seasons of the IPL. Based on the talk on forums, I assumed they were like Bradman's invincibles who were inbeatable. :cantstop:

Are you seriously telling me they had less talent than say Rajasthan Royals or even Bangalore? Bsngalore was the one that went with wrong players like Wasim Jaffer and looked more like a Test team. Mumbai had the likes of Jayasuriya, Pollock, Malinga, Harbhajan etc. and even the domestic players were ok. They had Shikhar Dhawan and also Manoj Tiwari, Rayudu etc. I don't remember all the players they had but in no way they didn't have any decent talent.

They required 30 runs in the last 3 overs which was not impossible with 6 wickets in hand. But they had a south african batting for them :cantstop:. Granted they lost that match to Lions. still it was funny how Duminy struggled to win the match from that point. Rajagopal satish was a joke in that innings. Also against SOuth Australia they had a chance to win with 23 runs required in 10 balls with zaheer having to bowl 4 balls. But SA batsmen scored 24 runs in 7 balls and won it comfortably. Both Zaheer and Bhajji were mauled by the netherland batsman Cooper.
NareshK Posted April 24, 2011 Posted April 24, 2011 I remember Mumbai had pretty poor local players in the first season. They had Rahane, Dhaval Kulkarni and a couple of other guys who were basically useless in T20 format. They only started improving in third season. Also I dont agree with the idea that just because a team has talent they should automatically win. KKR had a pretty decent team right from first season but they always ended up losing most of their games and ended up at the bottom. Would you say Ganguly is a bad captain too ? Winning is also about how they play as a team, how they take the momentum forward and perform in the crunch situations. You cant just blame the captain.

Like you I don't have any favorite IPL team nor do I back anyone. My allegiance changes based on the players, i.e. if Rohit Sharma is facing Lee/Tait I would support Rohit but if Malinga is bowling to Jadeja/Valthaty/any Indian youngster, I would back the Indian players. In fact last year, or even earlier, I can't believe how Chennai managed to even reach the knockouts leave alone winning it. I mean they open with Morkel (Albie, not Morne) and had bowlers like Jakati, Balaji and Gony to complete their quota!!! No matter what you say but credit has to be given to Dhoni for making the utmost of their resources and performing pretty well.

KKR's problem was a dysfunctional franchise where the power was with owner/coach and not the captain. If KKR had followed Rajasthan's model and given authority to Ganguly instead of likes of Buchanan and his "multiple captains" theory things would have been different for them. Same can be said of Deccan Chargers in IPL 1 with the likes of Symonds, Afridi, Gibbs, Rohit, Gilchrist in the team and coming last!!! Like KKR if they had put their faith in a strong leader things would have been much different for them.

Zaheer, Rayudu, Satish, all came in season 3. Dhawan came in season 2, but didnt do jack as it was in SA. Tiwary had been there since season 1, but he only developed his game and became a better batter later on.. towards season 3. He was a fixture in the team in S1 and played in S2 as well, and did not impress. Before that there were players like pinal shah, yogesh takawale, MA Khote, Chitnis, Thornley, Rohan Raje, Dhawal Kulkarni, Ashraful, Kyle Mills, Chaitanya Nanda etc. Nothing to write home about.
vvvslaxman Posted April 24, 2011 Posted April 24, 2011 Well Chennai may not be invincibles but have performed admirably based on their talent. . Chennai is not a great T20 team by any means especially in their bowling department. But they have a very good captain who can gets things done. PKXI and Delhi were always strong on paper in the last 3 seasons. But never didn't go as far as they should have gone.

Chennai have choked twice, Mumbai have choked once and Bangalore have choked twice in knockouts. No team has been like Australia in WC knockouts and no team has been like SA. If any of these teams continue the run over the next 3 years or so, then it might make sense to question their ability in knockouts. Edit: Looking at the records again, it appears like Delhi are a bunch of chokers as well. :cantstop:

You hit the nail on the head. I would have much more confidence in Mumbai if they were captained by someone else. Tendulkar, like Sehwag for Delhi, are great players but not good captains. They do everything based on whatever the plan was and hardly deviate from the plan. Mumbai and Delhi should look at some other player for captaincy. Delhi missed a trick by not retaining Gambhir and making him captain. Mumbai should see if Rohit is captaincy material like Kohli or groom someone for the role as the "formula/pre-planned captaincy" comes back to bit you in the knockouts when things are not going your way.
Tendya Posted April 24, 2011 Posted April 24, 2011 i can see MI supporters trembling with fear and anxiety.from now on they will be worried about their hidden weakness. i suggest the opposition to remind sachin and rohit that "if they go, mumbai goes" .when they collapse under the pressure, the others can picked one by one. Mi and its fake mumbaikars are doomed! muhahahaahahahhahaa! :hysterical: You say that MI have 4 solid top class batsmen and 2 sloggers, so wat else do you need in a T-20 team.
