It could also cast a shadow over his place in India's upcoming tour of the West Indies, from June 4, and perhaps even the England series that begins in mid-July. "It will be a miracle if he plays another match," PB Vanchi, director of GMR Sports Pvt.Ltd, owners of Delhi Daredevils, said. Delhi, who are currently seventh in the points table, have three games left and have a slim chance of making it to the qualifiers. Vanchi said it was a mutual decision that was taken after Sehwag held talks with the BCCI on his injury. He was advised to undergo surgery as soon as possible. "He has a problem. In the last match, too he struggled. The BCCI is making the arrangements for the surgery," Vanchi said. "They are waiting for a date. If he needs the surgery we are not going to be coming in the way." Sehwag confirmed the development and is expected to travel to London at the earliest for the surgery. The injury is a long-standing one which had ruled him out of the two World Twenty20s and more recently the one-day series in South Africa in January. Sehwag was declared fit in time for World Cup after having undergone rehabilitation at the National Cricket Academy in Bangalore. Though he did not bowl during India's victorious campaign, Sehwag finished seventh overall in the run charts, in the tournament, including a blistering century in the opening game against Bangladesh. Sehwag's decision to play the IPL was always going to be potentially risky one, especially in light of the heavy workload during the World Cup. But he had the dual responsibility of leading Delhi as well as being their best batsman. Sehwag is currently the top scorer in the IPL with 424 runs and his loss is likely to further hamper Delhi's chances, who have manged just four wins out of their 11 games played so far.

Karan114 Posted May 9, 2011 Posted May 9, 2011 I think he was out for around 4 months when he had a shoulder operation in 2009. Almost certainly out of the England Tests. If he had done the operation immediately after the World Cup there might have been a chance of him playing in England.
Chandan Posted May 9, 2011 Posted May 9, 2011 1st test match will start from 21st July which is 72 days from today, ie 10+ weeks. Even if he gets the surgery done after a week, will it take more than 8 weeks to heal completely? If it will, then sehwag is out of England series. If he recovers quickly then we may, just may have him. It was a terrible decision on his part though to not go for the surgery straight after WC.

Karan114 Posted May 9, 2011 Posted May 9, 2011 I guess Mukund will be the reserve opener as he was against the Aussies last year (I'd like to see Rahane in the mix but doubt it'll happen). Unless Vijay flops in the Carribean (and Kemar Roach will be looking forward to peppering him with the short stuff) I can't see him getting replaced though. Although even if he does, its not really ideal to have Mukund making his international debut against a top class pace attack on English pitches. What a mess Sehwag's decision to play IPL has left India in :((
ganeshran Posted May 9, 2011 Posted May 9, 2011 Viru has the right to decide whether to play in IPL or not. His career wont stretch forever and its natural he plays where he gets paid more. Plus this will be a good chance to get some young talent and try them out.

Why not drop the entire test team + the A team and send our U19 team for the most important test tour, just to try a few young talents out? This is not a chance to try something but will be an opportunity lost for Sehwag to prove himself in England, if he fails to make it to the tour!
