He sung for films like aashiquee saajan,dewana,1942 a love story,sadak,pardes,raja hindustani and many more. He won five filmfare awards in a row between 1991/96 which is a record.He was given bollywood star of the decade award in 2000.He features in seven of top ten best selling bollywood music albums of all time. He started off by copying Kishore but soon took over bollywood music scene.He sung for the likes of RD burman, Laxikant pyarelal, Naushad, Nadeem Shravan, Bappi lehri, Rajesh roshan, Jatin-lalit among others.
