Late Cut Posted May 16, 2011 Posted May 16, 2011 Where does this narrative arise among Pakistanis? Without american funding the country would have no economy, yet i read post after post, where everything is blamed on the US, and that the US needs to get out. No matter what happens, this seems to be the narrative. For example, the Pakistani Taliban blew up and killed 80 innocent civilians- i don't see people asking for these terrorists heads, but rather, that it's the fault of the US and that the US needs to get out. I can't comprehend the logic of this, when an organization has gone and killed civilians, takes the blame for it, yet the narrative appears to be that the US is to blame. It's similar to the OBL situation where college students were saying that the whole thing was a US conspiracy. What is the foundations of this narrative? Why is it repeated and believed like some mantra? (I am not looking for name calling or degradation here, but reasoned information on how something like this has come to be). In many ways it reminds me of Nazi Germany where the populace believed that the Jews had just set off somewhere else...

It is not blameless in this game, but of course, the Pakis are very much complicit. Both played with fire, and are paying for it in different ways. The difference being that America being a superpower AND far away from the epicentre, can afford it. Pakis being right at the epicentre AND a *****y bankrupt country, are gonna take the brunt.
yoda Posted May 16, 2011 Posted May 16, 2011 P@kis' claim is that before 9/11, things were not this bad in their land of peace loving people and all hell broke loose once the evil Amrikans chose to drive the Taliban out.
ganeshran Posted May 16, 2011 Posted May 16, 2011 Many Pakistanis are fed delusional theories by a section of the media which sympathises with the military and the religious right. Political parties have a lot to gain by painting the US as the villian. It allows them to distract attention from their own incompetence and pisspoor fiscal policies.
straighttalk Posted May 16, 2011 Posted May 16, 2011 In a way the Pakis are right. Purely from their perspective, these terrorist were not killing Pakis, they were killing us, Afghans, sometimes westerners. After 9/11, Pakistan joined the US and were forced to kill some terrorist, forced to block boundaries, forced to remove aid, etc. now these half educated mullahs etc turned on their own country. what followed is a vicious cycle, army forced to kill mullahs, mullahs does suicide bombs, army retaliates and so on. the TTP has said, if the US goes they will stop attacking the paki army. so in a way the escalating violence in pak land is bcos of us presence. however, if us leaves, those mullahs will focus on kashmir. unfortunate but true.

Also, this invasion is responsible for Pakistan economy downfall because it was doing very well under Musharaff.
ravishingravi Posted May 16, 2011 Posted May 16, 2011 ^No Afridi bhai, that is one of those bogus myths

I agree with what you are saying; both the US and Pak are implicit in how these terrorists were brought to the fore. However, now that the situation is out of control, wouldn't you want to eliminate these extremists? They are KILLING your own folks- who would kill women and children to make a point?
punjabiplaya Posted May 16, 2011 Posted May 16, 2011 pakis will never realise that you should never bite the hand that feeds you!! the americans are there for a reason, this worlds security depends on the forces outing n killing terrorists! if not then god forbid could be someone close to us,theres not a few nutters i have come to realise theres only a few good ones! rest are brainwashed or deluded!!

ganeshran Posted May 16, 2011 Posted May 16, 2011 Best non biased view I have read about the current situation. Also' date=' this invasion is responsible for Pakistan economy downfall because it was doing very well under Musharaff.[/quote'] America's invasion started in 2001, Musharraf remained at the helm till 2008. Pakistan's economy looked stable under Musharraf because free flowing American money was subsidizing the unsustainable economic policies. After Musharraf went, there was more transparency in the system, which showed how much the rut had spread. Pakistan's tax collection is only 10% of their total GDP, so where does the remaining 90% money come from, especially when there are no abundant natural resources?
Silva Posted May 16, 2011 Posted May 16, 2011 The Pakistanis are cool with the Taliban so long as their only terrorizing non Pakistanis. Obviously they want to go back to that kind of arrangement . The thing with Pakistan is that their are a lot of people that sympathize with radical terrorist even if they don't agree with their methods. They think that blowing up and killing a number of innocent civilians is a natural reaction to American aggression. If these people had all their demands met tomorrow they would still be angry at something and taking it out on some one.
Late Cut Posted May 16, 2011 Author Posted May 16, 2011 Israel OK, but how is this changing the fact that innocent people are being slaughtered in your own country. It's like me saying "darfur" or "bosnia" or any other situation...it makes no sense.
Zap_Brannigan Posted May 17, 2011 Posted May 17, 2011 Before 9/11, the pakis backed terrorist were happy attacking India and living in Afghanistan. Post 9/11, since US has started hunting for the ***tards in Afghanistan, they have moved back in with their parents. Since the 72-virgin seekers are too cowardly to fight against the army, they refuse to fight the Americans and their only target is now wrecking their parents house. The chickens have come to roost and pak is suffering. Ofcourse, the pakis, the great conspiracy theorists, will never blame themselves or their fellow brothers. Hence they blame the only other change and that is the US. They are drama queens who always play the victim cars. Bring in unrelated issues to play victimes like Israel or Iraq but forgetting Bangladesh and Bosnia.

Also' date=' this invasion is responsible for Pakistan economy downfall because it was doing very well under Musharaff.[/quote'] Invasion is not responsible....what exactly is Pakistan's business or industries? As Fareed Zakaria stated in his book the Post America World Pakistan has one business building more and more madrasses. Something as elementary as mango production or textiles they are no where in the picture in the global market. As well the Pak diaspora cant find a single individual with any clout or power to spread a positive image of Pakistan the way an Indira Nooryi or Vikram Pandit can.
kubrickian Posted May 18, 2011 Posted May 18, 2011 You live by the sword you die by it. Pakistan used terrorists to attack India and also helped Taliban in Afghanistan to control that territory. It was just a matter of time before things backfired. Pakistan should stop playing the victim card as they always love to do. This whole mess was their fault.
