Somebody gotta tell Tony Greig that's the way of the world - whoever has the might calls the shots. US does that with UN or in world politics and India will do the same in cricket. India generates nearly 80% of the cricketing revenue worldwide so it is in a position to call the shots and nobody can do anything about it. It's naive to think that India generating 80% of the revenue will be on par with teams like Pakistan or SL (probably 5% revenue combined). That's not how the world works. I guess it's too much for Greig to see Indians in the supremacy and calling the shots. Guess what! Greig or others whining about it won't change things much. India has proven via IPL that India can live without ICC - hell if India decides to break away from ICC and set up wit's own league similar to MLB, NBA or NFL there wouldn't be any world cricket for Greig to b**ch about.

Don't know about you guys but I'm well and truly over the IPL... No one really cares about it outside of India and if it wasn't for the large pay packets I doubt the players would play in it.

What you've said is true, but what Bradman99 is saying is also true. He is not out here to antagonize - just check his post history. He's just getting a different perspective in.

It gets annoying hearing the same anti BCCI and anti IPL rhetoric everytime. If you don't like IPL then don't watch it. Period. Even I would prefer intl cricket anyday over IPL but I don't have a go against IPL just for the sake of it. Also ppl forget all the good things IPL is doing for the world cricket. For the first time cricketers are making money in line with their skills as professional athletes & sportsmen. I can see lot of kids taking up cricket now because they can see there is money to be made in cricket via IPL or any other league that may spring in future. Maybe Test cricket will be affected but evolution of a sport is natural. Rather than see cricket dying I would prefer seeing cricket evolve. Ratings may have gone down this year as IPL followed the world cup. It's natural for the league to have a reduced viewership immediately after the world cup and the ratings will ne back next year. BCCI simply has to work out scheduling aspects of the IPL and viewership and TV ratings can take care of itself by default. By the way even with a 30% dip in rating I'm sure it generated more revenue than some of the cricket boards like PCB or SLCB.

He's just getting a different perspective in.[/quote'] My reply might have sounded rude, but is true that the popularity of IPL outside India is quite immaterial at the moment (irrespective of the fact that the only time IPL took place out side India, the attendance was overwhelmingly good). However, considering the world wide participation of international players and considering that it is the largest T20 event under ICC apart from the T20 WC, it is only fair that the ICC is ensuring smooth conduct of the event. International media and international fans do take interest in the development because of the international stars involved. However, the fact remains that the product ultimately is to be sold in the Indian market but is intended to benefit players world wide. So, basically, it's a never seen before opportunity for international players to come and take advantage of the vast Indian market. But the commercial success of the product itself is dependent on the Indian market.

I am not too sure "No-one really cares about it outside of India", I do not know where you come from or your age but if you don't like the IPL trust me you better be worried! The IPL's main overseas audience target are not naysayers like you but "kids", people in the age group of 10 to 18. These kids across cricket playing regions are being rammed down their throat by marketers as "the best cricket league where all the stars play". They are growing up watching IPL as the premier cricketing competition in terms of watching, playing, and making money. Regardless of the quality or significance of IPL it is what kids will grow-up watching, reading, hearing about and eventually follow it. Be it "kids" in Pakistan or England, South Africa or Australia, IPL will continue enticing them.

I was in UK last year where Mandira Bedi was presenting IPL on a local channel. but there was no tv coverage of Eng v Bangla game, and no one was aware of it who was showing it.

Trust me on this. I've been living in London for a LONG TIME and I'm a member of the Middlesex Cricket Club. I know about cricket and cricket fans in this country. Yes, it's on ITV4 since last year but in England, it is only test cricket for the people. Ask any of the other people who live in the UK on this forum. Cricket fans only care about tests and some only care about the Ashes. No one gives a **** about international T20 cricket, let alone a domestic league. Reg Eng's tour of Bang, it was on Sky. Sky didn't even bother to bid for the IPL.
