I put all these 3 batsmen in one basket. The height, flourish with back lift, big shots, immense stage presence, match turning ability are common traits for these people. Gayle and Gilly do the damage mostly upfront inside power play while Yuvi has been doing a fantastic job as finisher outside powerplay. Who do you think is the best ODI bat. Ignore their other skills like bowling, keeping, fielding. YOu can take where they bat with a pinch of salt here coz.. my main focus is how well they threaten opposition when they are at the crease to take the game away from them. Yuvraj has given enough samples of that as a middle order batsman. Also.. their stroke making is very very close. Big back lift, terrific timing, immense power.

Gilchrist and Yuvraj are big match/tournament players. Yuvraj never had the consistency of Gilly who is just on a different level. Gilly can walk into any all time World XI be it Tests or ODI. Can't say much about Gayle - destructive but never seems to turn up for WI

Gilchrist anyday. Yuvi and Gayle are both part time bowlers at best, whereas Gilchrist is a regular wicketkeeper. Effectively, while the other two are equivalent to one and a half players on the best of days, Gili lets you play an equivalent of 12 in a team. Plus, he is so graceful even when slogging the ball. Yuvraj may be as good, but he doesnt have as many of those days as a Gilchrist would. Gayle is brute player, and inconsistent.

He has 7 MOS more than Gilly, average more than Gilly , centuries more than Gilly and in 46 matches less and you are saying he was inconsistent and Gilly was consistent...I would say all three are as dangerous and as inconsistent as they are. Gilchrist was not consistent at all as he has the lowest average of the three. People think Gilly was good because he had the freedom to play like he used to play because of a strong batting line behind him and Gayle never had that luxury. Even Yuvraj had to curb his aggressive instinct because of the match situation. Gilly had only one game and slam bang most of the times in which some times he was successful and sometimes not. We have Sehwag who has that kind of freedom.

I have watched Gilchrist play when Australia was at its prime, and as with any bunch, team success translates into success for individual players. Plus, he started playing around the time I fully began understanding the nuances of the game. So I recall on those players fondly, those who played a whole lotta cricket then. Also, Yuvraj has always been the guy who is good enough to be in the team but not someone who you would put your money to perform loads of times. Gayle would come a distant third simply because his batting involves force and not the grace of the other two.

In subcontinent Yuvi coz he is a pretty handy spinner who can bowl his 10 overs competently. Outside the subcontinent Gilly as his batting and wicket keeping would be of more value.

Gilly was never really consistent in ODIs. I'd pick Gilly as well but he is not in a different league or anything. A different league would have been Viv Richards in ODIs compared to these 2 players.
