Karan114 Posted May 25, 2011 Posted May 25, 2011 Dilshan: I wouldn't want to tour Pakistan again Sri Lanka captain Tillakaratne Dilshan has welcomed his national cricket board's move to turn down a proposed tour of Pakistan due to security concerns - admitting he does not see himself returning to the country. No international cricket has been played in Pakistan since seven Sri Lanka players and an assistant coach were injured in an attack on their team bus in Lahore in 2009. Six Pakistani policemen and two civilians died in the attack when gunmen ambushed the bus and opened fire. The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) had offered an itinerary of three Tests, five one-day internationals and one Twenty20 international, but Sri Lanka Cricket turned it down following an attack on a Karachi naval base on Sunday. Dilshan was onboard when the bus was attacked two years ago and he welcomed the move, saying he could not see himself returning to the country as a player. "I don't think so," he said, when asked if he would go back to Pakistan. "It was a bad experience for me in Pakistan. No where as flat as those in the UAE. It looked impossible to get a result there. The PCB was also talking about costs. SL might be a better option. I hear that Pak is considering playing Eng in SL.

No you misunderstood, there will still be cricket for you guys, but it'll be in places like Lanka or the opposition "hosting" like in NZ 09, but the costs issue might prevent UAE from becoming a permanent five year thing as you suggest. Otherwise UAE is best for a number of reasons. Agree that the pitches are as flat as Pakistan and can improve.

ganeshran Posted May 25, 2011 Posted May 25, 2011 To me Lanka sounds the better option. With more spinners, It suits the Pakistan bowling now. Also costs will be cheaper than hosting in UAE.

Yes, its sensible to have a permanent home for the next five years, wherever it is, but it is a costs issue from what the PCB says
jairamesh Posted May 25, 2011 Posted May 25, 2011 If PCB got their act together, they could at least make a case to ICC and Dubai for borrowing money against future earnings for financing their costs to host matches in Dubai. It will attract partisan "home" crowd and TV viewing time will not be to far of the radar for Pakistan viewers. Additionally if PCB can eventually organize a "home" series in Dubai vs India, it can make a fortune with the right promotion and creativity, something like "Peace Cup", or "Battle in the Sands" type series. Hype it up as "The biggest, fiercest, richest, greatest, most watched in the history of sports rivalry". Just look at England milking the Indian team...in the region of US$50million. But yet, sadly I just don't believe PCB have the competency and will to push something like this through. The PCB needs a Lalit Modi.

Dubai is an ideal place for limited over cricket....not sure about Test, but well all of sub-continent (except Lanka) got flat pan roads so makes no difference.
Sir_Afridi Posted May 25, 2011 Posted May 25, 2011 Pakistan should make USA as home venue and force Obama to build a international standard cricket stadium and endure costs of all series. After all USA is responsible for current security situation in Pakistan.
