Ultimate_Game Posted May 27, 2011 Posted May 27, 2011 Mumbai are generally always one of the strongest squads in IPL and start off strongly, looking almost invincible in the league/group games but when it really matters they crumble just like South Africa do in intl arena. To be fair to Mumbai they have a pretty poor captain in Tenulkar. I mean I simply can't comprehend the thought process behind some of his decisions - you have world's best T20 bowler in your team and you are facing probably the most destructive T20 batsman at the moment. You would obviously go to your best bowler to get the crucial wkt coz if Gayle stays around even for 6-8 overs the match would be gone. So what does Tendulkar do? Go with Malinga, or even Harbhajan? Nope - he went with Abu Nachim!!! And I won't even go into other decisions like holding Pollard at 7 with ppl like Sathish etc. batting before him. No matter what the reason, Mumbai at the moment are SA of IPL and I am sure they won't be feeling so "lonely at the top" at the moment :haha:

The team revolves around him. He gets out and half our hopes are gone. Just like India in those days. 2. India's middle order sucked. MI's middle order sucks. 3. India had only one effective bowler in Kumble. We have only one effective bowler in Malinga. 4. India - men in blue. MI - men in blue. Just chance? Nope. 5. MI has the word "Indians" in it. Now you know why they chose to wear blue. 6. India, in that period, reached semi-finals and finals of many tournaments, but could not win it. Same is happening to MI in the IPL.

His brilliance (which is undeniable), masked all your other problems which took over once he slowed down a bit. Ofc others chipped in on and off, but Malinga's brilliance was the constant factor. Rayudu did well when he was at #3, and then the random batting order problem came in. Pollard's batting position was never established and he was deferred in some games way too much. And sending Harbhajan in early, WTF is that? BTW Dhoni did the same with batting order in IPL 1. He used to send people up and down randomly, at least so it seemed.

MI just peaked at wrong time.Winning lot of game early made sure they can experiment, but then they started to lose. once you start losing, doubts creep in. Sachin should be given credit for backing youngster, in IPL3 they wre Tiwary, Rayudu and Satish. This time around he backed Rayudu, Rohit, Abu Nechim etc/ There is not much difference between CSK and MI, they both use same strategy, both are not good chasers.

And in fact India actually ended up winning plenty of tourneys/finals in 90s when they managed to sneak into one. Losing in finals started in 2000s under Ganguly where we regularly made it to finals but not able to finish the deal. Dhoni has gotten us over that hurdle into the next level. However, one thing remains common with 90s India - Tendulkar not quite making it count towards the business end. He will have the numbers to show but in crunch situations cave in. Good for him he managed to in the WC medal under Dhoni's captaincy else he would have played 25 years without a WC trophy.

What was Dhoni's contribution in the WC except for the final. What if we would lost in Q/F against Aussies or Semifinal against Pakis.... Did Dhoni do anything there.
