ViruRulez Posted June 6, 2011 Posted June 6, 2011 Ubuntu is the best OS in the market Bought another new laptop without any OS installed just to check out Ubuntu 11.04 Natty as I have heard good things about the looks of the unity interface. Will also use it to test out Windows 8 beta when it releases in the next few months hopefully.

People just try to pretend that java is cool and sh!t like that but the truth is significant chunk of IT industry runs on MS and it aint changing soon. Yeah the Mac Book might do browsing far better than Windoze but that aint putting food on my table (yet) :(( Damn Right. Microsoft Visual Studio runs C, C#, C++ and some of the other .NET languages, I think. The only time I wanted a Mac, and only a Mac book air (that super thin one) at that, was when I didn't want to carry my heavy laptop through airports and hotels.

Ever heard of servers? :winky: Also, ever heard of Secure Servers (which is kind of an oxymoron in the Windoze world). :giggle: Yes Windows Servers are also quite popular especially when you use SQL Server as the DB or if you want to do windows media specific streaming, etc. But overall, top server infrastructure for companies which handle most of the web traffic are primarily Linux based.

Look up Google's web infrastructure and see which OS they run. The common theme will be the word Linux. Many of the world's top web infrastructure companies run modified forms of Linux. They will never run Windoze if ever security was even remotely important.

Even those are all windoz :phehehe: A very small percentage of Servers run on Windows. It is hugely expensive because of license fees, involves frequent updates and restarts, faces security glitches. Except .NET development, there is no point in buying a Windows based server because Linux and Apache can offer all that for much lesser cost. Most of the web runs on Linux, not Windows.

Apple is ok for ipod, iphone and to some extent Macbooks but nowhere as they as important in the tech world as Windows or Linux. Windows is the biggest player in the home computer and software development areas and a small player in servers too whereas Linux is the biggest player in servers and is a small player in home computers too. Mac is just a small player in home computers and nothing else. NOTE: I am not comparing the mobile OSes because I would then need to bring Android, Symbian etc. too in that case. :winky:

Vb 6 was arguably the worst thing that could happen to developer world. It gives newbie programmers such bad habits that its very difficult to code properly again. Its even more frustrating when they do they carry over the same bad habits to VB.NET

But apart from that I didnt find any significant advantages compared to Linux to justify the price difference between a PC and a mac

Institutes like Aptech and NIIT used to teach programming straight away on VB6. They could have done a greater damage to the student's future career. As soon as VB6 became obsolete, they all looked totally clueless.

I dont follow Apple or Oranges much but what is this Lion OS and what features has it got. Apple normally moves ahead of Windows and so I suppose it has got some new features not present in other OSes. :hmmm:
