I as a tenant obviously do not stand a chance. But I was asking from the Owner's point of view. I know my owner wont go through all the legality to have me stay back. He will take the easy way out and ask me to leave.:P My question was is it legal to have such rules? The society is basically forcing the owners to go only for certain kinds of tenants.
No, as a landlord I would ask the society to piss off. They can't do anything.

^no it does not work that way. If they have formed "society" owner has to follow the rules or else should go to civil court. I guess no one would want to do that.

I think its the owner's/landlord's prerogative as to who he wants to keep in his house and who he doesn't.

In legal terms, as a tenant you can not do anything once your rental agreement expires. As for what your owner can do, depends upon the Terms&Conditions of their society, if there is any such legal document. Regardless of whether there is such a legal contract (society one), then still - would your owner go extra mile for you? Society people can cause lot of trouble to him/his family, if he decides to go against them, unless he is "The Boss" there. This is just like mob mentality - you cant reason it out, unless it is a matter of life&death/pride for you and have enough time and power to invest.

Good thread. One hypothetical question now. Let us assume that nikred purchased the flat himself and was living there for the last 1-2 years. Now, he would be a bachelor cum owner in that case. So, what would the society do in such cases. So, would he also have been told to leave the society even after being the landlord/owner himself. Are the bachelor owners in your society also forced to sell off and leave their flats. :hmmm:

Technically, all the children of those landlords will fall under 'bachelor' category!

I don't think any society or even house owner can actually evict you just because you are a bachelor. That is plain illegal. But societies are increasingly adopting this policy of discouraging bachelor tenants.

So what are they doing to bachelor owners or are there no bachelors owners like some IT or MNC guy in the whole society

what if a couple of unruly bachelors declare themselves "gay" and say they are actually a couple :dontknow:
Then they'll kick them out for being gay.

We can't allow people with mental illnesses to live in our society or we don't rent houses to chakkas ("ombodu"). :winky::winky:
