Holysmoke Posted June 6, 2011 Posted June 6, 2011 Gary Kirsten has been appointed coach of the South Africa team for a term of two years. He will be joined by Allan Donald as bowling coach, and Russell Domingo, who coached the Warriors, as an assistant. "I'm delighted by the appointment and consider it a major honor," Kirsten said at a press conference in Johannesburg. "It is all about the players. We will do our best to prepare all the guys. There will be a consultant fielding coach, not a permanent appointment." Kirsten takes over from Corrie van Zyl, who was an interim coach after Mickey Arthur resigned following the home series against England in 2009-10. South Africa haven't played any cricket after a disappointing World Cup campaign, which ended with a quarterfinal defeat against New Zealand. This is Kirsten's second stint as coach of an international team. He just finished a two-year term with India, during which he helped them become the No. 1 Test team and win the 2011 World Cup. Donald turned down an offer from New Zealand Cricket in order to take up the role of South Africa's bowling coach.

SA is always a top side ,its just that they struggle in ICC events and mind you they will keep on struggling in ICC events,its doesnt matter whether they make Kirsten the coach or AB the captain.

jairamesh Posted June 6, 2011 Posted June 6, 2011 Things are going to change for the better for the Saffers methinks. I would say it's going to go the opposite direction. On paper it looks like dream combo, from coaches to captains. But rarely do dream combinations work. Too many big personalities "officially" in charge. I would put money on Donald walking out first, can't see what he can bring to the likes Steyn, Morkel, Kallis and co. If anything, the Saffers need a spin coach with some decent spinners in the horizon.
