Changes for next two ODIs

The difference between Kohli and Tiwary is Kohli Got the number of chances he deserved before establishing himself. But Tiwary would be dropped after 1-2 failures. So let the lad play in his Position and Fail.

Surprising you say that. Kohli made his India debut in an ODI series vs Sri Lanka after that Mendis test series in August 2008 (Sachin and Sehwag weren't there). Even though he did a fairly good job as an opener, he wasn't in the team for the next 12 months and played his next game in the Champions Trophy in Sept 2009 (when Sehwag and Yuvraj were missing). Imagine a 18 year old, who had never opened, being asked to open in his debut series that followed one of the worst series defeats of recent times for India. He still went out there and gave his best. Following that he scored tons of runs playing for Delhi, North Zone and India A and remained in contention. He was keen to get a spot in the team and did what the team asked him to do. Similarly Tiwary should be willing to do whatever the team asks him to do and asking him to open IMO would work well for the team because a) He will be replacing an opener (assuming its Dhawan he replaces) b) It will also not result in changing every one else's batting position. However, what might happen is Dhawan and Parthiv continue to open and Tiwary replaces someone from the middle order.

I agree...we should not tamper with the batting positions. The batsmen who should be opening include Sehwag, SRT, Dhawan, Parthiv Patel. Virat Kohli is our permanent number 3. Gautam Gambhir is an exception. He can either open or come in at number 3 which would mean Virat Kohli can also come in at number 4. Keep the basics. This is one of the main reasons why Pakistan's batting is pretty much nonexistent...You can't mess around with batting combinations.

Manoj Tiwary deserve his chance as in the last game he played, clearly he was against the likes of Lee and co. on a deadly Gabba pitch. And he got an absolute ripper of a ball pegging back his stumps. Dhawan is not good enough. I don't see the purpose of giving him another 2 games. It's not about the runs but the way a guy bats. Rohit Sharma made only 29 in Australia but everyone knew that he had the ability after that.

Youre right and the fact that Kohli did well as opener is testament to his class. However that really should not have happened. Esp considering he was as young he was back then. I do think Dhawan should be given the whole series (you could argue this is where the folly of picking just two openers is exposed) as the series is sealed. Youre probably right also w.r.t the amount of cricket they have played jnot being such a huge amount. But In Raina case he has been part of the squad, so involved in training, as a sub fidler, flying to various parts of the world too. All this takes its toll. There was an article listing how many flights he has taken over the past few months. Why not let him sit one out. If Tiwary is asked to open, he probably will, as he'd be willing to do whatever to get into the XI. He should not be really though, there will be enough pressure as it is on what is effectively his ODI debut why compiund things by playing him out of position.
