Sayali Bhagat injured

In another incident during the opening ceremony, model-turn-Bollywood actress Sayali Bhagat broke her right arm while she was driving the open jeep which turned turtle. Both the performers were rushed to Kailash Hospital where doctor declared Bist dead. “We have sent the body for the post-mortem,” said a police officer adding Sayali fractured her right hand. The police are yet to register a case. They have set up an enquiry to find out the reason behind the accident. They are also investigating if the organisers of adventure sports event had the necessary permission to hold the show.

Shah Rukh Khan in legal trouble for smoking

Bollywood's King Khan upset the faction of anti-smokers in Jaipur by smoking a cigarette publicly during the IPL match held on Sunday night, at Sawai Man Singh stadium, Jaipur. This made him land in legal trouble with the Jaipur Cricket Academy director Anand Singh Rathore who moved to court on Monday afternoon seeking action against Shah Rukh Khan. While talking to us, Rathore said, "It's a lapse on the part of police and administration as they allowed Khan to enter the stadium with cigarettes. Besides seeking the court's intervention, another question I have raised is how a cigarette was allowed inside the stadium. Logon ki to paani ki bottle tak rakh lete hain, but SRK ko cigratte le jaane di." Rathore has also handed over the evidence to the court along with the application. "I have given them a CD apart from some photographs wherein the actor is clearly seen smoking." The additional chief judicial magistrate's court, taking note of the complaint, has fixed April 12 as the date for next hearing. When contacted, Gheesaram Sharma, stadium supervisor, said, "We heard about the complaint in the morning." He however, said they have not filed any complaint in a court and are in the process to prepare a separate report. A senior officer said, "The reports will be submitted to BCCI, as well as other departments for appropriate action." Lawyer Nem Singh Rathore, who filed the complaint on behalf of Anand, said, "The actor was broadcast live on the TV channel while smoking. It's also negligence on the police's part, as they did not confiscate the cigarette packet, allowing him to carry it into the stadium."

Grand old lady of Indian cinema turns 100 today

During past 7 decades, Zohra Sehgal has given spirited performance in theatre and films Veteran actress Zohra Sehgal, the grand old lady of Indian cinema whose spirited performance in many a film and stage production has entertained audiences during the past seven decades, is turning 100 on Friday. Sehgal, who has starred in Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam, Dil Se and Cheeni Kum, was last seen in Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Saawariya (2007). She was born on April 27, 1912 at Saharanpur, Uttar Pradesh, third of her seven siblings and grew up in Chakrata, now in Uttarakhand (near Dehra Dun). She began her career as a dancer with Uday Shankar in 1935, and performed across Japan, Egypt, Europe and the United States. She married scientist, painter and dancer Kameshwar Sehgal in August 1942. The couple had two children, Kiran and Pavan. Considered the doyenne of Indian theatre, Sehgal acted with the Indian People's Theatre Association and Prithviraj Kapoor's Prithvi Theatre for 14 years. She was active in theatre mostly, but also did a few films in between. She choreographed for a few Hindi films as well including Guru Dutt's Baazi (1951) and the dream sequence song in Raj Kapoor's Awaara. Sehgal moved to London on a drama scholarship in 1962, and appeared there in many TV productions including The Jewel in the Crown, Tandoori Nights and My Beautiful Laundrette. Returning to India in the mid-1990s, Sehgal acted in several films, plays and TV series. Her film credits include Masala (1991), Dillagi (1999), Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham (2001), Bend it Like Beckham (2002) and Veer-Zaara (2004). Known for her feisty spirit and zest for life, Zohra spread smiles with her roles in Sawaariya and Cheeni Kum even at 94. Sehgal was awarded the Padma Shri in 1998, the Padma Bhushan (2002) and Padma Vibhushan, the second-highest civilian award, in 2010. In 2008, she was named the ŽÃ*aadli of the Century' by the United Nations Population Fund Laadli Media Awards. Incidentally, Sehgal's 100th birthday falls in the year when Indian cinema is also celebrating its completion of a century.
