Karan114 Posted June 17, 2011 Posted June 17, 2011 I would rate current indian bowlers like this, this is just for tests only, 1, Zaheer, 2, Ishant, 3, Munaf, 4, Sreesanth, 5, Sudeep Tyagi, 6, Praveen Kumar, 7, Varun Aaron, 8, RP 9, Umesh Yadav, 10, Pankaj singh Sreesanth is ahead of Munaf - these Tests will be the first Munaf plays in 2.5 years. Praveen is ahead of Tyagi as well. In fact Tyagi should be alongside Aaron/Yadav etc. RP, if he can find his old zip again, would be a serious Test contender too.
Yantra Posted June 17, 2011 Author Posted June 17, 2011 Tyagi should be considered similar level to Ishant, he is tall has speed, can be effective where there is bounce in the wicket, Praveen can only be helpful if there is swing, with old ball not very effective in test matches,
Karan114 Posted June 17, 2011 Posted June 17, 2011 Tyagi should be considered similar level to Ishant' date=' he is tall has speed, can be effective where there is bounce in the wicket, Praveen can only be helpful if there is swing, with old ball not very effective in test matches,[/quote'] I agree that Praveen isn't going to be much use in Test matches because of his lack of potency once the new ball loses its shine. But the point is he's actually in the Test squad so closer to selection for the final XI. What you are doing is comparing styles but it means nothing if the player is not in India contention. Tyagi is a non-entity as far as the Indian team is concerned.
phaedrus Posted June 17, 2011 Posted June 17, 2011 how fast was Tyagi? looked pretty average in the couple of matches that i saw. is he as quick as ishant?
daryl1985 Posted June 17, 2011 Posted June 17, 2011 Tyagi should be considered similar level to Ishant' date=' he is tall has speed, can be effective where there is bounce in the wicket, Praveen can only be helpful if there is swing, with old ball not very effective in test matches,[/quote'] The difference is that Ishant has shown flashes of brilliance at international level so we know he has it in him. On the other hand Tyagi has barely played at International level and from what i have seen of him he sprays the ball about a lot. There is no way he can be considered to be on a similar level to Ishant. My rankings of the Indian pacers would be: Zaheer Ishant/Sreesanth (both capable of brilliance but very inconsistent) Munaf Patel Praveen Kumar Mithun/RP Singh (Singh would be higher but he looked a little unfit in the IPL and i do not think he is up to playing test cricket atm). Aaron - Promising Limited overs prospect with genuine pace and decent accuracy. Umesh Yadav/Sudeep Tyagi - Yadav has pace but NOTHING else. Tyagi is injury prone.

Yeah Sudeep Tyagi is injury prone, but he can be our best bet in test cricket if he can stay injury free and work strength. He on his own scattered Australia A which came to India for a tour in 2008 taking 5 wickets with the old reversing ball, shattered quite a few stumps in that innings, was highest wicket take in EPT tournament. IF he can play a full ranji season without injury, he will certainly be back in the contention again. Last ranji season too, he could play only 4 FC matches and in one of them he could not bowl because of injury he suffered while batting. He took 18 wicket in the 3 matches he bowler at an average of 17 and a strike rate of 26 with 2 5-wicket hauls. He helped UP winning 2 games from nowhere, one was against Baroda where Baroda needed 160 odd runs to win in 4th innings, but Tyagi took 6 wickets and won the match for UP. Tyagi's forte is he can move the ball both with the seam and gets bounce as well at a decent pace. In ODI he played against SL in Delhi, which was abandoned he bowled over 140s Ks consistently. BCCI must start a specific fitness and strength program to help these new fast bowlers even in off seasons. Lack of planning by BCCI in terms of fast bowling can really hurt Indian cricket when Zak moves on.

We simply have to get him fit cos it sounds like he is one of our most promising prospects. Was he injured for the IPL?
Pagalpanti Posted June 18, 2011 Posted June 18, 2011 Time and again selectors have selected really good bowlers its the coaches that have spoiled them. Right from 2003, the list of bowlers that came into scene with so much promise only to fade away: Irfan Balaji RP Singh Sreesanth Munaf (Bowls good but can be spanked any day for a lot of runs with the pace he bowls at) Nehra (although he's back but doesn't have the pace he used to) Ishant (Seems to be getting back his rythm and pace but not yet convinced if its a real comeback) Maybe I'm forgetting someone but had at least 2-3 of these stayed the same, Indian bowling future wouldn't have been so bad.
Yantra Posted June 20, 2011 Author Posted June 20, 2011 Tyagi's problem is that he plays for UP, where it appears there is a lot of selection politics, he does not even get to play enough matches for UP, even before he was selected for India, he was not regularly selected for UP, he only got selected cause he played for CSK and Dhoni must have noticed him, I agree though that he needs to work on the fitness, as for Umesh he will do good with good coaching, right now he has speed and looks quite fit and strong but does not have seems to have enough wicket taking balls.
