J P K Posted July 3, 2011 Posted July 3, 2011 BRIDGETOWN: Indian skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni needs to ensure that his bowlers complete overs in stipulated time in the third Test against the West Indies as a slow rate could get him banned from playing in the opening Test against England later this month. Dhoni and his team were deemed to have bowled three overs short during the Barbados Test which ended in a draw on Saturday. This is his second offence this year after he was found guilty during the third Test against South Africa at Newlands, Cape Town earlier this year. Another such offence in the Dominica Test, starting on July 6, would bring a mandatory ban on the Indian captain. Rule 2.5 of the ICC code of conduct states that in case a particular team is guilty of bowling slow over-rates on three occasions in a 12-month period, the guilty captain would suffer an immediate suspension of one match in the same format of the game as in which the offence occurred. In accordance with the regulations concerning minor over-rate offences, players are fined 10 per cent of their match fees for every over their side fails to bowl in the allotted time, with the captain fined double that amount. So Dhoni would be docked 60 per cent of this match fees from the Barbados Test. Two years ago, Dhoni was banned for two one-dayers after his team failed to maintain the over-rate during the second match against Sri Lanka in Nagpur. Dhoni thus missed the one-day internationals in Cuttack and Kolkata of the series, returning only for the final game in Delhi. http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/sports/cricket/series-tournaments/india-in-west-indies/top-stories/Dhoni-risks-ban-for-slow-Indian-over-rates/articleshow/9085043.cms
suraj Posted July 3, 2011 Posted July 3, 2011 Dhoni should not play in 3rd test; he is more important for England Lets make Vijay the captain- he can get banned instead
Cricket Tragic Posted July 4, 2011 Posted July 4, 2011 Dhoni should not play in 3rd test; he is more important for England Lets make Vijay the captain- he can get banned instead :hysterical::hysterical::hysterical::hysterical::hysterical:
akshayxyz Posted July 4, 2011 Posted July 4, 2011 Since Kohli is out of squad for England, make him (or Raina) captain for the last test. Then Dhoni cannot be dropped for slow over rate.
J P K Posted July 24, 2011 Author Posted July 24, 2011 Dhoni in danger of one match ban Indian captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni is facing the danger of a one-match ban unless his side manage to increase their over-rate following slow bowling during England's first innings in the opening Test. India recorded an over-rate of 13 overs per hour instead of the required 15, according to a report in the tabloid 'Daily Express'. The ICC code of conduct states that the captain of any team which is found guilty of bowling slow over-rates on three occasions in a 12-month period will face a one-match suspension. India had failed to maintain the required over-rate during January's third Test against South Africa and the recent match against the West Indies in Barbados. Even if Dhoni escapes punishment at Lord's here, the threat will remain throughout the England Test series, the report said.
Texan Posted July 24, 2011 Posted July 24, 2011 Maybe him getting banned might help Indian team.. No, it won't. Even if India lose the Test, he is still India's best captain by a big margin. He is also the best wicket-keeper batsman available again by a big margin.
anotherhawkeye Posted July 24, 2011 Posted July 24, 2011 If they ban him for the next test, potentially we will be without: Viru GG Zak Dhoni Brilliant.
Karan114 Posted July 24, 2011 Posted July 24, 2011 If they ban him for the next test, potentially we will be without: Viru GG Zak Dhoni Brilliant. Yeah, XI for the second Test (which will be must win because we are losing this one) could well be: Yuvraj Abhinav Dravid Sachin Laxman Raina Saha Bhajji Praveen Ishant Sree Things are going just beautifully for India. And who would be skipper?
Kookabura Posted July 24, 2011 Posted July 24, 2011 Dhoni appears certain to be banned. The over rate was pathetic throughout the match
asterix Posted July 24, 2011 Posted July 24, 2011 It'll be a positive thing if he gets banned..A better wicket keeper will ensure that chances don't go abegging. Stand in captain will also bring in a more attacking approach in bowling and fielding and we will be having a better batsman to rely on..
Texan Posted July 24, 2011 Posted July 24, 2011 It doesn't help Dhoni that his "premier supposedly wicket-taking spin bowler" also takes a long time to bowl his overs.

Yes blah blah ,you will know what he brings to the team, when he misses the test match :finger:
VRV Singh Posted July 24, 2011 Posted July 24, 2011 How good is Saha? Don't think I have seen matches he has played. Looks fairly quick and agile outfielding.
asterix Posted July 24, 2011 Posted July 24, 2011 Yes blah blah ' date='you will know what he brings to the team, when he misses the test match :finger:[/quote'] Once he gets banned, we will see how much we miss him. I'm pretty sure the WKeeping and Captaincy will improve..
yoda Posted July 24, 2011 Posted July 24, 2011 Experts tell me that he picked up this bad habit with managing over rates from the IPL.

Cricketics Posted July 24, 2011 Posted July 24, 2011 WTF are you guys smoking who are saying that it will be positive if Dhoni is banned?? Dhoni average close to 40. One should know the place where he bats. He doesn't come 1 down or anything. He has already been our best captain ever and has become the best ever wicket keeper-Bat India ever had. It will be a big blow to already wounded India.
