IIRC Sarwan averaged 7 or thereabouts in this series. So that's a big loss for us. Essentially we lost a tailender to bowl at.

He didn't have too many opportunities either. Our top order was getting runs consistently in the world cup with Sehwag, Tendulkar, Gambhir, Kohli and Yuvraj among runs. Dhoni's role was to hit around in the power plays where he wasn't too successful but I wouldn't hold it against him too much. In fact in the last world cup warm-up game against NZ Dhoni did hammer a 100 so he wasn't out of form - it's just that he didn't get too many opportunities to spend time in the middle. And when he did come up the order in the final we all know what he did. So I don't see too many similarities between Sarwan and Dhoni in this case.
