Emerging Players tournament, 2011

sirkkanth didn't deserve a spot. There are atleast 40 to 50 guys who did better at first class than this dude. 6 matches 251 runs average of 31.
He would not have got selected if this team selection is discussed in news channels. mandeep singh would have been a good choice. he made a 150 in an one day game against u-19 australian cricket team.

just rad ths. Srikkanth Anirudha! :WTF: this is nothing but nepotism at it's worst. What happened to Pujara, Uday Kaul, Mandeep Singh, hell if they wanted to stick with the Chennai flavour they should sent back Murli Vijay to sort himself out. But selecting this potato is making a mockery of selections to determine India's future players.
Its not exactly new in Indian cricket, to be fair, but tells us everything we need to know about K Srikkanth.

Kohli should have been included to get his confidence back. Right now he doesnt belong at international level at test level . Playing in Aus would have helped his game
Don't worry he will be fine. Initially, he struggled in ODIs too , but came back and established himself as one of the best ODI player in 2010 in the world.

BCCI should not retain this selection committee...some horrible selections here for this tournament...again proving why selectors were called jokers by Jimmy Amarnath
Srinivasan would have given Srikkanth a life long position if it were up to him. The guy averages less than 30 in FC cricket, FFS.

that is the biggest worry for Sir_Afridi - that Kohli will be fine and play well at Test level while Chota Khatmal will continue to be just another player "with potential" :hehe:

Few of the names are rather disappointing. Including Dhawan himself. Seems like they have given too much impotance to T20 performances while selecting team for longer version. Some of the batsmen to be considered: Amit Verma of Karnatka, 6th highest run getter of season Sarul Kanwar of Punjab, opener with 50 avg and 70 strike rate playing more bolwer friendly conditions Uday Kaul of Punjab, avg close to 50 in both formats after 5 seasons. Dont understand why he is not picked for A teams I would have picked these instead of Srikanth at least. I wouldnt be surprised if srikanth gets to some how play a token game for India, it will get him in IPL auction. This seems to be a step in that direction.

Good to see a new wicket keeper C M Gautham, he was very good for karnataka and averages above 40 in both first class and list A. This tour would show if he is good enough only for Ranji or is he better than Pp and saha

Emerging Players tournament, 2011

How would the chief selector's kid got a free trip to Sydney's nightclubs?
Don't know if any of you guys read this blog or not, but this post here is interesting: The cricket report you won’t see in your paper 5896686719_dc117fe4c3.jpg RVIND SWAMINATHAN writes from Madras: The stultifying nepotism and favouritism in Indian cricket is as old as Chamundi hills. But more indication that players heading the sport is not necessarily a panacea comes in the selection of the Indian squad for the Emerging Players tournament to be held in Australia. The good news is that at least four Karnataka cricketers (media pacers R. Vinay Kumar and Sreenath Arvind, wicketkeeper C. Gautam, and batsman Manish Pandey) have made the cut. The bad news is Srikkanth Anirudha. Anirudha, the son of the former India opener and current chairman of the selection committee of the BCCI, Krishnamachari Srikkanth, has sneaked in, no prizes for guessing how, and even Yahoo’s cricket columnist Venkat Ananth (see Twitter graphic, above) is scratching his head in disbelief. After a first-class debut in the 2003-04 season, the horizontally challenged chip of the old block, averages less than 30, is not even a member of the Tamil Nadu Ranji trophy team, and had scores of 3, 7,9, 0, 64, and 0 in season four of the Indian Premier League (IPL)—and for that he gets a free plane ride to Australia? Followers of Karnataka cricket are, of course, familiar with the trend. The joke is the KSCA selection committee has to only fill nine players because the other two are reserved for Udit Patel and Stuart Binny, the club-class sons of Brijesh Patel and Roger Binny, who would find it difficult to get into a good first division team. And of course, the belief that cricket flows in the blood is a national pandemic: Sunil Gavaskar spent the better part of 2000s trying to get his son Rohan Gavaskar in; Mohammed Azharuddin found a backdoor for his son in the Kolkata Knightriders, etcetera. But to see Srikkanth, whose conflict of interest in cricket matches if not rivals Brijesh Patel’s, upto the old tricks is not merely shocking but disgusting. Even simple followers of cricket on Cricinfo can see through the game of empire-building cricketers, but the selection committee cannot. Pity. And a greater pity is that such favouritism will barely find space in tomorrow’s sports pages. Certainly, I am willing to wager, not in The Hindu. And no prizes for guessing why either.
