Cricket fans select their greatest test team of all time

While you have a right to your opinion' date=' probably you can accomodate this one as well : [url']http://es.pn/oYGa08 Overall, he was a better batsman towards the end of his career. Imran was to Pakistan was Kapil was to India and we should probably leave it that.
How does it contradict anything I've said - Imran was a great bowler, a great all rounder, but as a batsman he would be the last person I would pick amongst Botham, Kapil, and him coming at number 7.

In years to come I bet people will say the same about Shahid Afridi despite the fact we all know he cant bat. "oh yes that Shahid when he was just a sprightly 16 year old he smashed the quickest ton ever, he was so talented just look past his record" :giggle: The numbers dont lie. And if they do they dont lie to the extent that Kapil Dev is a better batsman than Imran Khan.
Ok so your stats would tell you that w/ a batting avg of 37, Imran was a better batsman than Botham, avg 33, and Kapil, avg 31. Hadlee batting avg of 27 shows that he is a poor test batsman. Afridi, who himself admitted to not being good at test, with a batting avg of 37 ( similar to imran) is better bat than Kapil, Botham, ..... Talking about Kallis, I am not sure how many SAfricans would pick him ahead of Pollock for all-rounder's slot Thanks for the comic relief though .... Let's just use stats guru to pick the teams :--D

Using statsguru to pick teams is more accurate than picking on nationality.

Dude, Shahid Afridi would be remembered as a great character of his time. You may, or may not, think of him highly but personally to me he is a throwback to the days of cavalier cricket. He would be cut from the same cloth as Kapil albeit of course him(Afridi) being no match for the great man (Kapil). As for Imran-Kapil comparison, shouldnt you ask yourself how confident you really are about the subject when you yourself concede you have never seen them? Maybe you can listen to those who have :hehe:

In years t come Sahid afridi will still be 16.

There is a certain rule of the thumb here - the only people who rate Imran as a batsman are stats guru junkies - one never to be taken seriously in cricketing matters. Many more instances abound like this where the player was never really rated when he was playing but 20 years later the stats fit in, so push the notion through. Here is an earlier post of mine regarding Imran's batting and his stats : http://www.indiancricketfans.com/showpost.php?p=828231&postcount=34
Well said. Just because Rajendra Kumar consistently gave more hits than Dharamendra I should also consider Jubilee Kumar the greatest actor ever :orderorder:

ICC should have waited for Dhoni to smash a few more centuries from 300/5, then he could have easily supplanted Gilchrist and Bhajji to dart his way to 700 wickets to replace Warne, so we could have an all time cricket XI with majority being from a country which has been the best side for 2 years in 120+ years of it's existence. These exercises run by cricinfo every few months keep it's jingoistic Indian fan base alive and kicking - that's about it.
Cricinfo only conducted it once as far as I know and the main team was picked by a jury and not by the fans. They came up with a pretty useful team as well. Considering there was only 1 Indian picked, the jury certainly didn't pack the team with Indians to keep the fans happy. Jack Hobbs Len Hutton Don Bradman Sachin Tendulkar Viv Richards Garry Sobers Adam Gilchrist Malcolm Marshall Shane Warne Wasim Akram Dennis Lillee

The fact that Gavaskar the greatest opener ever wasnt taken shows the searing anti-indian bias. Im happy with Sunny, Sehwag and SRT on this team... Kapil is questionable for Sobers and only Sobers I agree... But look Warne was taken ahead of Kumble and Bedi so please spare me the "Indians only voted for Indians BS".

Sunny missed out by 1 vote I think. He made the second 11.

Were Bedi and Kumble in the short list? Probably not, besides Warne is pretty popular in India anyway. Also how did Malcolm Marshall not get in the side? Ambrose is in, not sure how ahead of Marshall

^ Yes. Kind of sad. But these players seal their spots. Dravid will definitely make the squad, for he's one of the best cricketers to play Test cricket.

Bedi and Kumble were options yet Warne was taken.. I personally think there should have been 2 spinners and 2 pacers instead of a 3 1 format. Ambrose and Marshall is a toss up. I'm okay with this. Personally think Sobers should have been taken but Kapil was better than Imran and most importantly a better person and better captain for his team.

Perhaps you didn't reply to me yesterday for not everyone is capable enough to swallow the humble pie. So I have a few questions- 1. Why did Peter May make it to the list and Sachin did not? 2. Why is Ricky Ponting listed 3rd and Sunil Gavaskar listed 20th? 3. Why are Matthew Hayden, Neil Harvey, Michael Hussey in the list in the first place? 4. What noteworthy have they done to be listed and what has Clyde Walcott done to even deserve his place? 5. And who the heck is Everton Weekes? Why is he there and not Rahul Dravid? Look how we manipulated the ICC into having just 1 of our batsman listed, that to at 20th place, behind the umpteen classless players.
