Cricket lovers from across the world have cast more than a quarter of million votes this month to choose their Greatest Test team of all time. Fans voted on the ICC's official website, www.icc-cricket.com, using a short list provided by the game's governing body, to pick their leading eleven, as part of the activities to commemorate the 2000th Test Match, which will begin at Lord's between England and India on Thursday. Four Australians, four Indians, two West Indians and one Pakistani have been named in the ?people's' Dream XI. The final selection is as follows: Virender Sehwag Sunil Gavaskar Donald Bradman Sachin Tendulkar Brian Lara Kapil Dev Adam Gilchrist (wk) Shane Warne Wasim Akram Curtly Ambrose Glenn McGrath Haroon Lorgat, ICC Chief Executive, said: "The huge interest generated during the past month was amazing as media and supporters worldwide speculated and then selected the fan's Greatest Test team of all time. It supports our view of the everlasting popularity of Test match cricket. "It would have been quite special to see this team take the field of play given the array of batting and bowling talent contained within the playing eleven. "Selecting from such greats is no easy job, and not surprisingly, the selection mainly reflects modern players seen by present day supporters. There are many greats from the past who would have easily merited selection in this team, but it is nevertheless interesting to see the fans view on their greatest eleven of all time." A series of activities are planned during this week in the build-up to and during the England-India Test match to celebrate the 2000th Test. Fans are encouraged to share their opinions using #lovetestcricket and #testcricket on Twitter. No Garry Sobers

Seriously? Kapil ahead of Sobers??
Being as its a fans xi and Indian fans will have accounted for 90% of the vote then yes. If Munaf Patel was on the short list he would probably make it.

:orderorder: Who is better then Kapil?
Garry Sobers is about 10x the player, Imran Khan is better. But Kapil is Indian so well done to him.

Why not just do this: Virender Sehwag Sunil Gavaskar Donald Bradman Dravid Sachin Tendulkar Brian Lara Laxman Curtly Ambrose Vinoo Manakad (All-rounder at #6) / Hazare Kapil Dev Adam Gilchrist (wk) Dhoni Wasim Akram Srinath / Amar Glenn McGrath Zak / Nissar Shane Warne Chandra / Gupte / Parsanna / Kumble

Kapil Dev, arguably the worst all rounder of the quartet [along with Beefy, Imran and Hadlee] yet he is voted in the best test team ever, gotta love Indian fans just bombarding the voting system though.

Sobers should be there but I don't think Kapil is the worst all-rounder of the quartet. That could be your opinion but at his peak, Kapil was a very good bowler, in terms of batting ability he was probably the best (though the record may not reflect that) and ofc his fielding was top notch No point in trying to drive the point of Kapil being the worst. What surprising that he is on that list ahead of Sobers [just like it would have been if some of the others had been, for e.g. Botham/Imran/Hadlee being on that list ahead of Sobers (and that too batting at 6) would have been equally surprising]

I never saw any of them play but if you look at the numbers Kapil Dev is mediocre and the worst out of the lot. Obviously there is much more than numbers but lets be honest the majority of voters would have been 15 year old indian kids like deepak sach with nothing better to do.

Serani, You have to back yourself here with some evidence..... Both Hedlee and Beefy were used to taking wickets in English or English like conditions. Imran..... He had support bowlers. SOme of his support bowlers were better than him.

Well how come Kapil could not put up a half decent batting average on these flat wickets, when he bowled they were flat and when he batted they were minefields? Im not having this debate, just pointing out that Kapil getting in this team is a farce.

I rate Imran over Kapil. But I would have picked Sobers as the batting all-rounder. Bowling is good enough to have a batting all-rounder instead of a bowling all-rounder.
