Its time to groom a new first slip - Raina for Dravid

Dravid is done at slip...people who say otherwise are kidding themselves. If it wasn't for the fact that he kept wickets for a few years he would never have held the record. The mistake that people do everytime they point out his record is to perpetuate our inefficiency in the slips. Its level. Raina and Kohli were good in the slips during the WI series. So if one of them is playing...make use of them I say.

isnt laxman/tendulkar/bhajji/zak holding on to those spots? too many ppl to hide man
Yup, this is the trouble with aging teams. Dravid is simply not as sharp as he used to be in the slips. I remember some of his awesome slip catches, he is simply not the same force. Like someone said at 38 he is not getting any younger, groom someone now or there will be a world of trouble later.

Dravid never kept wickets in a Test. He was a good slip fielder earlier but since the last 2-3 years he has become more unreliable which is to be expected from a guy who is wrong side of 30 and his reflexes will obviously will not be as sharp as they used to be.

We've had one too many important catches being dropped by our erstwhile best slip catcher. Chanderpaul, Kirk Edwards in WI 3rd test (went on to score 100s) and England's best batsman, Trott, here at Lords. We need to groom someone younger - Raina could be a good candidate. So far haven't seen him drop any catches while standing as 3rd or 4th slip
Dear Sir, Raina is being groomed by making him stand in the slips. Dravid is still safer at first slip than Raina.

Why can't people look at this objectively? Dravid was great for a long time' date=' but age makes reflexes slower...thats just life. Even Dravid's batting - [b']Ganguly just said a while back, he thought Dravid's best batting was in 2001-05. He's still very good and better than most, but age affects everybody... TOO MANY IMP CATCHES HAVE BEEN DROPPED BY DRAVID RECENTLY.
The same Ganguly also said the second attempt was Dhoni's. Selective amnesia ?

The authority with which people make dumb statements like this is just amazing.

No wonder you don't see the logic what almost everyone else in this thread sees
You spoke about Statistics. I proved you wrong. So you defied your own logic. Now, you are looking for another loophole by which you can justify replacing Dravid with Raina. May I remind you my friend that Raina has not even cemented his place in the Indian test team right now. So we can all see who doesn't seem logical and who is speaking from the heart. As for everyone, I'm not the one telling people they are thinking from the head or heart. I understand everyone has his opinion on a subject. This however doesn't mean I will allow you to piss over mine... that too when you have no idea what comparison you are making.

One series lost as captain don't make a trend...one dropped catch doesn't make a trend...a few important catches across multiple series' date=' might suggest something though....All those records mean nothing if you start dropping catches at regular intervals.[/quote'] dhoni dropped chances in WI, esp baugh of bhajji... that test became a draw instead of a win.. today again dhoni has dropped trott so we need a new keeper:giggle: In this lineup, dravid is the slip fielder, might be losing it a bit, but he is the guy... and whats with the crap of groomming a 1st slip fielder :hysterical: its not 1950s, they get enuff practice, they should be fine whenever put in..

^Stop thinking from your "heart". We should have probably dropped Tendulkar when he was going through a rough patch in 2006 and we should have groomed someone for his role.

Dravid was right behind the ball but he was totally blinded by Dhoni and the ball deeped very quickly as it travelled last 2-3 feet. He was not even close to the ball. Now dont tell me Dravid is so bad that he couldn't get close to the ball. SIMPLE...I think we should leave it right here..

Gavaskar has been talking about Dravid standing a little too deep in the slips since the WI series and he did say its that distance which is causing him to attempt these catches far too low. Maybe he should have a chat with someone in the team or maybe RD himself as to where he should stand. MSD also needs to shore up his keeping. Since the WI series, is dropping a few of of them and making some technical mistakes while going for those catches. In such a high profile series, we would need to hold onto even half chances to surge ahead of the poms.

Dhoni too needs to tighten up his catching (dropped Carlton Baugh in 2nd test in WI, crucial drop and not stellar at Lords either). And his batting has slid considerably as well. It's his captaincy that has him unscathed - nonetheless, he better improve his catching/batting.

Please Drop Dravid from the team.Scoring 100 against a pathetic WI bowling attack is no good. Apart from that Hundred. He did not get a substantial score. If RD fails in this series,he himself must retire.
