But someone tell Donald and co this is a 4 match series with plenty of cricket yet to be played and going by what this team has done in the past, only a fool will write them off. In fact the losses in SL and SA were much worse than what we had in England despite the handicap of playing with just 3 bowlers.

Please understand that Donald is the coach of a county team and if he says anything that England will win he will lose his contract,So ask any coach of IPL team about whether India deserve the no1 spot and everyone will say yes,cause they will lose their job if they say no...

If there's a difference of opinion against Donald, fine. However, one can't categorically argue (in any sense) that what Donald said was wrong. My 2 cents.

I did not see them as favourites anyway but lots of people hyped them up as the no. 1 team, especially in the media. Now it is more like "doodh ka doodh, aur paani ka paani". Let England be seen as favourites from here on - and India show them that they are true champions. Donald talks about Fletcher digging deep, very deep into his charges. Not sure what exactly that means but I hope he makes the team realise that they performed way below potential. Even in the post-match interview, Dhoni used expected excuses like Zak's absence, Sachin's illness, Gauti's injury, unhelpful pitch for Bhajji. He even used a smart excuse for the batting failure in the second innings, saying the batsmen were not used to their batting positions!!! As if the team is full of novices! Let's just hope we prove our detractors wrong. With our performance. We can scream and rant about Donald but surely there's no better way to prove him wrong than by levelling the series at Trent Bridge?
pinkfreud Posted July 27, 2011 Posted July 27, 2011 Well, that's what you get for having the richest cricket board in the world, the richest players who enjoy demi-God status in a nation that also has the largest number of cricket fanatics and viewers worldwide, and for being World champions. It's always been about favouring the underdogs, criticising the 'big bullies' who trump the rankings, and fighting the 'evil conglomerate' in sport... in this case, it's the BCCI. Even Oz was much hated when it was #1 in cricket, so it's a cycle that will continue regardless of any nation which becomes #1. IF England becomes #1 and stays up there for a while (which I doubt), it won't be very long before people the world over will be baying for their blood. Envy is the obvious outcome of success. There's a lot of bitterness, mostly in the 'Western' cricket playing nations, about the focus on cricket now shifting to South Asia. Something of that nature happened in football too, when Latin America suddenly became the powerhouse of international football even though premier league footy is still flourishing in Europe, particularly England. It's ironic these commentators (particularly the English ones) are rambling on about BCCI's financial clout, when the same sh*t is happening in English football. There's a subtle undercurrent of neo-imperialism when it comes to their attitude towards Indian cricket and its impact, and it stinks, but they were always soreass losers, so that's something Team India will always have to deal with. It was supposedly all OK when they shoved their might down our throats, but they're choking and gagging when it's the other way round Let's just use this claptrap to humour ourselves and allow them to bark all they want. It's just been one Test, and they're already gloating. It'll be all the more fun to watch them swallow their bile as the series progresses.

The hypocrisy and the bitterness or whatever you may call it coming from some people is baffling. India is the best team in the world but its quite clear they are not well prepared for this series and dont seem to have the hunger which they showed earlier. Akram and Ganguly even talked about this during the first day that there doesnt seem to be enough enthusiasm on the field. Maybe some guys have relaxed a bit after the WC win considering the weight they have put on. I hope the team bounces back though.
