Over the top, excessive eulogising, heralding a new dawn with questionable evidence. All those celebrations came to an abrupt end. If there is such a thing as tempting fate, England are doing it. Unwise. They are better, but not by all that match. Be careful, England.

If England do go on to win, it's great but if they don't, they'll still have good fun knocking them down. The English media have had a good time bashing the cricket team though all the years of mediocrity. Remember when Beckham was sent off in the WC?

A nation which which looted and conquered so many different lands. With all that money, you open so much facilities for the kids in UK, yet you can't match U.S or China or any oother great sporting nation. Look, We were never good and never had that much money. We have always gotten the tag of Developing nation,. You guys even after being "Developed" well enough, still never really achieved what you guys shouild have. Don't you think you have underachieved as a sporting nation?.

Ask a child in India what he wants the most in this world, and invariably it will be a good education and a job. Ask the same question in England and the answer will probably be that they want to be a footballer. But with the emerging of India's economy and with greater funding, future generations will have the indulgence of aspiring towards becoming sportsmen/women. Unfortunately, I see the reversal happening in the UK due to our crippling debt, it was only a couple of days ago where I read in the FT about how the UK government wants to cut speding in sports/athletics. Though to be honest, seeing the tax I pay being wasted on council estate idiots running around whilst I slog my as* off working and paying silly money for gym memberships for doing the same I say HEAR HEAR!

In cricket, England has won nothing of note. Its only contribution to cricket has been its spectacular innovations - test cricket, ODI cricket and T20 cricket. Thanks for that! Barring that one T20 world cup, England has not won anything at the world level. In cricket world cups, its record in the last 20 years has been abysmal, not to mention you've never won a world cup. In test cricket too, i have not seen England achieve anything in the past two decades. Only the last one year, England has risen as a test nation. I dont know how long this will last though, as you will have to play in the subcontinent at some point in time. I think South Africa is more deserving of the #1 tag, though, I will admit (in the spirit of full disclosure) that i believe England is a better test team than India at the moment.

I wasn't comparing England with India. And I have a soft spot for England, not the least because my son supports them at every sport including at cricket v India, something i have brought him up to do. He doesn't have to carry the patriotic baggage of first generation emigrees from India, that seems to be selective for cricket.
