No re baba, long time for that :--D BTW, way to miss the whole point of the thread ppl. What I meant was that it is as depressing as the 90's. The only reason I mentioned SRT 41* was because that was the reason I couldn't even turn the TV off. :((

It does feel like the 90s, especially batsmen getting blown away by their quickies and our bowlers getting treated like club level trundlers by their batsmen. Even the attitude on the field in this series is negative. But we have the team to bounce back.

People who stood in slips when Srinath was around were Azhar and RD and RD is still around .. so no not really.
Yes..but Srinath would have got 10-15 more wickets if someone like Raina was fielding in the gully instead of Kumble.

Deja Vu... Feels like 90s once again Had to travel on the eve of the 2nd Test and followed the 2nd test on and off by checking the score occasionally. On Day 1 when I checked the score was 90 odd for 6 and was astonished to see Eng get up to 221 and my astonishment was even greater when I found out Eng was 120 odd for 8!!! How the ph**k do you allow the last 2 wkts to score nearly 50% of the total runs? On Day 2 I checked the score and India were 240 odd for 4 with Yuvi just reaching his 50 and Dravid on 100+. And when I checked the score again when I reached my hotel, I was shocked to see India all out for 280. After that I knew what was on the cards. This sort of reminds me of the dark days of 90s which I thought I wouldn't see again... 1. Our bowlers never managed to get the tail out. 2. Snatching defeat from jaws of victory and letting opponents get away after dominating them. 3. Our tail starting with Mongia/Ratra/Dahiya (whoever the wk was) and the tail hardly scoring anything. The Chennai test loss to Pak in 99 was the case in point when the tail crumbled when 15 or so were required wasting Tendulkar's magnificient 136. 4. Poor fielding and especially catching. I thought we had at least become safe catchers but I guess not. 5. Incompetent BCCI with poor planning before the series with jokers like Jayawant Lele making statements like "the team will lose 3-0" after selecting the team!!! Now we have buffoons like Srinivasan and Srikkanth running the show with IPL taking center stage and marquee series like Eng pushed at the back-burner. Also, no spare opener in case an opener gets injured. 6. Players showing up unfit and going through the motions during the Test match. Watching Zaheer in the 1st Test and seeing the general conditioning and match fitness of the Indian team it sure looked like the 90s team was playing the game, i.e. 90s team in 2011 when most of them would be in 40s. 7. Pandering to the "goras" by recalling Bell. Come on, would likes like Ponting, Smith, Strauss would have ever done the same? Why do we bend backwards to please the goras? I thought we were over it by now but apparently not. 8. Same old failing against the short ball. 9. One batsman holding the fort - in 90s it used to be SRT and now Dravid is doing the same. But I guess we have regressed in at least one area - at least we had a wkt taking spinner in Kumble whereas Raina is bowling better than Bhajji these days. Hope this series at least forces the Indian establishment/BCCI to change things for the better and hope we see the kind of turn-around which we saw after the 2007 WC debacle. It looks like BCCI and players took WC win as be all and end all and clearly are resting on the WC laurels. I wish at least we show up for the series in Aus later this year. There were two series I was waiting for this year - Eng one is gone thanks to BCCI and players treating the team as their personal fiefdom. I hope they at least get their s**t together for the Aus series as the only way the team can redeem themselves is by winning their maiden series in Aus.

That's a hogwash theory. Tell me one series outside of India in the 90s (apart from the Australia tour in 99) when Tendulkar was our best player.

I watched that series, in fact I have watched SRT since his debut in '89 and I can tell you with assurance that India's best batsman in the summer of '91-92 was without doubt Tendulkar. Shastri was ok and Azhar turned up in the last test with a century. Others did **** all.

Nope not like 90's at all, even in the second test, even when England was piling on in the second innings, a lot of us had hopes that we will catch up and score the runs or draw (irrational and totally not true), that belief is kind of new, cos this Indian team has come back from big deficits so many times. thats why this hurts so much because it almost felt like they gave up and were going through the motions.

Yes..Ind-Aus-Pak in 1999-00. What was so special?
Test series before that. It was plain horrible for most of the players. Bowlers looked clueless and batsmen struggled. Yet SRT was MoS. Classic 90s type series.

Aus tour of 91-92, SA tour of 92-93 (although he wasn't top scorer there but was instrumental enough), tour to Eng in 96, tour to SA in 96-97, tour to SL in 96-97. Heck, on almost every Away tour Sachin played better than any other Indian batsman. In WI 97 Sidhu top scored I think. There is a reason why Sachin's place is so high - it is because he delivered in every bloody Away series against the toughest of oppositions and the toughest of conditions. He never had a failed Away series during the 90s

Started watching cricket as a kid in 1992 and been through the terrible 90s, now being forced to relive it -- thanks to BCCI and its tontee tontee circus!

96 England tour = Ganguly 92 SA tour = Amre (and Kapil scored a century as well)
92 SA tour, Sachin scored a 70 odd in another inning. It was just not coz of that 1 century coz of which I mentioned his name. Yes others scored 100s as well, but it was only Sachin who looked the most comfortable.
