Yuvraj's high backlift will always be his downfall in test against pacers. He does not adjust it in different situation like Lara used to do and short ball Raina is better now. Yuvraaj too looked clueless against short ball. He was hit and look at how clueless way he got out on a bouncer. Raina played bouncers well in WI on more harder pitches. Trentbridge pitch was a kind of wicket where most of our batsman strugelled and expecting these two to do anything special was hypothetical. And Yuvraj does not have a broken finger. Raina has done well in 3/4 tests this season and he should be persisted with at Edgbaston which is going to be a high scoring game.

He is no t even in England right now. He was supposed to play for Surrey on 14th August, but as he selected for India, he will miss both tests and county now.

He is not a wonderful test bowler and i think Raina is just as capable, if not more so of playing a gritty innings. Also Raina is a far superior fielder. If it was up to me neither would be in the starting XI but Pujara's injury has given them and opportunity.

Remember that in first innings Raina was DUCK OUT which turned the match towards england. If Raina support Dravid for a 50-60 runs partnership than India might won that test. England got a lead of 188runs in first innings, that will reduced to 120 runs if raina scored 30-35 runs. England were 107-6 at a stage in IInd innings. It means their lead can be around 230 instead of 300 when Broad came to crease. He might felt pressure at that position to increase match saving lead. Fortunately for him, their lead was almost 300 when he came to crease. This entire scenario of the match was changed by Raina's DUCK OUT in first innings? What he did in second innings? Is that half century saved the match? No need to consider useless half century at any stage of match.

Dhoni scored28 and sachin score 30+ Raina 0 My point is partnerships...not individual performances Sachin and Dravid scored 81runs together. Laxman and Dravid scored 24. At this stage India at 182-4 From here if India score around 50-60 runs with out losing wicket, Then Dhoni and Bhajji may score big shots. Only Raina's wicket kept Dhoni and Harbhajan in pressure. If India lose their 5th wicket at 240, Then Dhoni might scored with better strike rate instead of 27SR. Except Raina all other batsmen faced minimum of 30 balls.

You are right about Harbhajan....... He played a stupid shot. Raina's duck in first innings was the turning point of the entire test match. If he made that half century of second innings in first innings, just think once India can stay at match winning position at lords. The that test India under pressure in entire second innings. Handling pressure is tough job than scoring a triple hundred.
