Captain of Bhangra Posted August 7, 2011 Posted August 7, 2011 Hi, just thought I'd make you aware of the absolute arrogance of this player. Yesterday, there were a lot of us Indian fans at Northants. Every now and then, Sreesanth would come over to us while fielding, he was so nice to the children, and the fans that had travelled miles to see the team, despite their poor form. He was signing autographs, and at one stage, even picked up a pen from the outfield, and called a little girl back politely to hand it back to her (she had unwittingly dropped it). Eventually, Sreesanth was removed, and Praveen Kumar was placed there. Not as chatty as Sree, but a good guy nonetheless (the ruckus must have happened after we left). Was nice to the children that had gathered at the fence. Then came the moment that changed the day. Kohli was placed there. A little boy, about 8-9 years old, made the mistake of referring to him as "Kohli". The response was so arrogant. He was snappy, and aloof in ticking the child off. We immediately dropped our respect levels for him, and began to boo him. The stand went wild in heckling him. He ran to security and LIED, saying that someone had sworn at his mother in Gujrati dialect. We started singing Punjabi songs, replacing women's names with "Virat". The players went in for tea, and Kohli was on the balcony. He was talking to security, and pointing at our stand constantly, so we began to wave and chant his name with more than a hint of sarcasm. At this point, we saw Dhoni and Munaf make embarrassed gestures which seemed to say "Let it go dude". The players came out after tea. The Northants batsmen were clapped respectfully on (they had played well), we gave the Indian players huge cheers as they walked on 2 by 2. Then Kohli came out midway, on his own, we gave him some almighty boos, he began to point at us, then back at the security guy. I went for a beer, when I came back, some guy was being ejected from the stand, and a few others, including my friend, were arguing with this security guard, saying he was abusing his authority. Turned out this guard was actually a South African working for the BCCI. He was being helped by Northants security staff. We later spoke to one of the Northants staff, who apologised, but said the BCCI guy had more power than them, and they had to do as asked by him. By now, the fans were fuming. Dhoni tried to diffuse it by sending Kohli to the other side, and coming over to field by us. It worked, (even though he refused all autographs), he waved at us, my friend shouted "Dhoni, bowl!", to which he made a hand gesture to say "no thanks!" (eventually, he did bowl). Kohli took a catch, and his first reaction was to look towards us, and grab his crotch. My friend has an awesome photograph of that moment, and I will share it here as soon as I get it...
WC2011INDIA Posted August 7, 2011 Posted August 7, 2011 Wow.....well he is the new face of indian cricket. I bet most youngsters (low 20s) are like him.
Pak_Fan_4_Eva Posted August 7, 2011 Posted August 7, 2011 Such arrogance won't get him anywhere. He should learn from SRT, the perfect example of a sportsman.
Serani Posted August 7, 2011 Posted August 7, 2011 He does have that aura of arrogance around him, maybe that is the sign of a good batsman in some cases, or just a bit of a dick head
Captain of Bhangra Posted August 7, 2011 Author Posted August 7, 2011 Before this incident, we thought he was a top lad. We had even been talking about his inclusion in the Test side, and how great he'll be as a future captain. Extreme case of Hero to Zero...
Cricket Tragic Posted August 7, 2011 Posted August 7, 2011 I wouldn't read too much into all this. I've been to several events/matches and seen the players over the years. Some of our senior players who have an image of being humble often behave like morons.
Septimius Severus Posted August 7, 2011 Posted August 7, 2011 what an arrogant maggot. he needs to trim the eyebrows nom saiyan. Idiot couldn't score in the WI for toffee( to use a Boycottism).
NareshK Posted August 7, 2011 Posted August 7, 2011 You started booing him throughout the day just because he was ticked off for one moment ? I dont know, it makes you look much worse than Kohli. Maybe he was tired after travelling on the plane ? He was called in to replace Yuvraj before this game. I dont think it was nice of you guys to boo an Indian player on the field just because he wasnt too friendly.
VRV Singh Posted August 7, 2011 Posted August 7, 2011 Leaving this apparent incident aside I think we knew he was a bit of a prat anyway.

urbestfriend Posted August 7, 2011 Posted August 7, 2011 I dont read too much into this incident! I dont mind him being little cocky and arrogant , after all not all fingers are same and he is still a young lad.
deepak_sach Posted August 7, 2011 Posted August 7, 2011 As long as he scores runs i dont care whether he is arrogant or whether he is like Steve Davies.
Stuge Posted August 7, 2011 Posted August 7, 2011 picture please .anyway ,arrogance from his face drips otherwise too .So ,I'm not surprised at all .
Cricket Tragic Posted August 7, 2011 Posted August 7, 2011 Which senior players? :hmmm: If I type that, it won't be very popular among the members. I'll get that "what crap, he isn't like that" replies.
