Ya the age old self righteous argument, "If only it had happened to you!!", "If only your family member had been raped"!!". Please spare me the self righteous bullcrap about how violent reactions to such events are justified. This kind of nonsense barely dignifies a response.

On the other hand. Four killed in police firing on protesting farmers in Pune

PUNE: Four persons, including a woman, were killed in police firing at Maval near here on Tuesday when a farmers' protest against a dam water pipeline project turned violent. The trouble broke out after about 400 agitators held a rally along the Mumbai-Pune expressway, blocking the busy vehicular traffic and refusing to disperse despite police request, Sandeep Karnik, superintendent, Pune rural police, said. The farmers attacked policemen and their vehicles, after which the officers fired at the mob that indulged in heavy stone-pelting, he claimed. The officer said police resorted to firing when teargas and rubber bullet rounds failed to control the demonstrators. About 25 policemen received injuries in stone-pelting by the mob and the condition of an inspector was serious, police added. The farmers were protesting against the closed water pipeline project conceived to supply water to the neighbouring industrial township of Pimpri Chinchwad from the Pavna dam in the region. A spokesman of the protesting farmers, said the project would deprive the local farmers of their land and affect supply of drinking water in the region, about 70 kms from here. Police rounded up about 300 people in connection with the violent incidents even as villagers observed a bandh in support of their demand. Traffic on the expressway connecting the two cities remained paralysed for over three hours with vehicles queuing up along many kilometers, sources said. Police said the situation, though tense, was "under control" and the traffic normalised.

Will this have any impact on the london olympic games next year?
Yes, they are going to use the riots as trials for British athletes in sports like boxing, fencing and shooting/rifling.

Very noble sentiments' date=' Gunnar. I see you have got yourself an admirer- the omniscient Mr Sharma. Congratulations. I'd put that on my CV, if I were you.[/quote']Thanks for the back-handed compliment (or sarcastic slur). I don't think I am in support of an individual here. As I have made it very clear in the previous posts, I do not know the context in which these riots are happening. I made my point about state using high handed tactics only because I had no idea that in UK, police is not even allowed to use the baton (but it is surprising because I see them use water cannons and batons in the news shots they are showing here). No one likes riots and no one supports them except the rioters. In case you read my posts without jumping to conclusions and labeling me (in your mind) as someone who is on the no-police side, you would notice that I said the riots must be stopped with force even and things like curfews can be implemented. I only cautioned that once the riot is killed by force this time, don't turn it into a law. I still don't understand why they don't implement a curfew. Are they not allowed to? Take it easy, Dhondy.

Birmingham city center under lockdown from what my friends tell me. Anyone who has lived in brum would tell you that this was long due given the number of yobs on the high street at any point of time. I have never seen so many idiots in any UK city and I used to live in a supposedly nice part of Birmingham

I don't know about you but I have always liked Britain as a moderate country which honestly cared about its population. I would be pretty sad if migrants from third countries brought in their warped sense of tribal justice and imposed it in this country.
How do you explain that this has happened in the most tolerant country in Europe?

So what going around smashing buiding's, looting shops, setting buildings alight, and assaulting police officers is not violent behaviour. My brother who is part of the Met Police's Voluntary Special Constabulary is out on London's street keeping ordinary people like me and you safe, and if they have to use violent behaviour against those who don't understand any other language to protect ordinary citizens, then it is fully justified. If they were like you and keep turning the other cheek there will be no end to this carnage.

Sharma, you are an internet hero, man. Your knowledge of Physics, Maths, politics, geography, Medicine & countless other things astounds me. You humiliated some bona fide PhDs in their own backyards on this forum. I still remember some of the groundbreaking posts you made on that Osama genetics thread. Ever thought of writing a book?

I think its slightly unfair to lay the blame of literally every single societal problems that is afflicting European societies on the so-called 'liberal agenda'.

Immigration for example. Angela Merkel shocked the world when she openly came out and said that the multicultural experiement in German was a failure. All of Europe is becoming increasingly inward. France is passing anti-burqa bans. Switzerland is banning the contruction of new Minarets. The left is always accused converting all govts. into some sort of Karl Marx style communistical Utopia, when the truth of the matter is, all they ask for is a basic social security net for the lowest in society. In this thread alone, you have people calling for the UK Police to 'lay the hammer down..' or 'shoot those people..' like as though it is a good things. Since when did the reply to vandalism and hooliganism become police brutality?

I find this thread very interesting. I have always wondered who are the people who ask the Government to wage war against its own people (send in the army etc). That question has been answered now. It is always easy to accuse "bleeding heart liberals" for all the evils in a society however many of those fundamental "rights" that you enjoy today can also be attributed to the same "bleeding heart liberals". Therefore I fail to understand the hypocrisy which leads people who have benefited from the ideology of liberals to go on to slander them. The middle class population of every country who have a bit to lose are always the ones plugging for a police state, I have seen that both in India and the UK. Therefore it is no surprise to me that educated people on this forum are asking for ruthless suppression of certain sections of society instead of correcting imbalances which have led us to this pass. @ Punjabiplaya - "Open doors policy leading to anarchy", this is the most populist drivel ever spouted. If you read the red tops long enough you even begin speaking their language. Immigrants have contributed significantly to Britain as a nation. Today the British government has more entry barriers on educated professionals compared to any other developed nation in the world. Secondly, a large number of refugees do come from extremely dire circumstances and to write them off as "just another sob story" is pretty inhumane.
Gunner what i said isnt drivel, and i tell u 99.9 people will agree with me,and not with you, what your saying is not in any sort of context, even the politicians are saying our open door policy has been wrong.... the entry barriers have only been placed recently,in fact the main obstacles have been placed within the last few months,i know as i have been in direct contact with immigration, and dealing with sponsoring people from india!! Not any time did i say refugees from dire circumstances should be denied entry to britain,if you would do me the courtesy of rereading my post you will see that every case should be dealt with individually,i feel you have made a point against my post without reading and maybe seeing what i have written, even though your point is valid and that people in grave danger deserve compassion, this still should be only in extreme cases, are you telling me the hundreds and hundreds of thousands of immigrants here have a right to be here??? Uk has only recently started to close the wide door slowly recently as i said, the immigrants from pakistan somalia and other countries who in No way contribute to our great country but just sponge and make no effort at all in my eyes is immoral and wrong!!! If you come here from a dire situation dammit you come and try and better your life for yourself and your children, not put a drain on the already struggling economy! Indians especially and other immigrants have made a positive contribution to whichever country they have gone too, this i have found generally has been in the past where now there children through good education and better opportunities have good jobs and financially are in exceelent circumstances, the people coming now have no inclination or any sort of get up and go too make a future, they get a free house and hand outs..theres no incentives for them, thats why people pay 15 thousand pounds just to get to england, when labour was in power hundreds of thousands of immigrants flooded the country, there are terrorists rapists murderers amongst these, the jails are full of them!!! the open door policy has in general failed has caused resentment amongst the english, yes they have the right to feel agrieved as its there country, there are no go areas for white people from the black community and the muslim community and the white people hate it,thats why right wing groups are shooting up!! not drivel gunner fact my friend,i have more experience than you my friend and can tell you the majority of indians feel exactly the same!!!!!!!!

Dude, if you have read or watched the news, you would realise this is neither vandalism or hooliganism. This is straight line robbery and thuggery, where bystanders that come in their way get beaten up or robbed. What the average Londoner wants is for the government to allow the police to use reasonable force to counter the yobs, in the days that have just passed us the police have not been allowed to even raise their arms whilst their being pelted with bricks and whatever else the yobs can find. It is only today that the police have been allowed to use plastic bullets. Fortunately London is quieter today, but how long can we pay to have 16,000 police officers patrolling the street whilst we are fighting a deep recession. In the end it boils down to having a real deterence, whereby the force can use plastic bullets, batons, and other measures to counter these b*astards.
