It's horrifying to those pics on the net, every webpage I go - I see a new place being burnt down. Can the public and players really pretend that everything is OK? and enjoy the game for over 5 days. People will dodge the rioters and drive to the game? is it worth the risk Can we postpone it? For the outsiders, you see 4-0, some see 2-2

Here's the video that really shook me - folks actually robbed a guy (most probably a tourist) who was injured and lying on the ground. Just imagine what the reaction would have been if something like this had happened in India :omg: [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fsRwwQJdKjE&feature=player_embedded]‪London,Birmingham,Manchester Riots. It's more shocking coz its 1st world, but this looting and anger is for a different reason..no one gives a damn about the real reason But aren't the cops retaliating hard now

1st world thing is just an excuse. We all saw what happened in Vancouver after the Stanley Cup loss, or riots/shootings that happen in US quite often. The fact that these riots have been going on for 4 days is just amazing. How can these countries actually take a shot at India when they obviously are no different. India has 1.2 billion people and I am sure they would still get a handle on the riots within 4 days. It's just that India and growing economies simply get put down just as India was during the Commonwealth games which happened without a hitch by the way. Somehow certain things are tolerated in other places but if it happens in India those same people shout from the rooftops. Hope ICC security team perform a security review of England as well coz if they can't get their s**t together in 4 days they can't be relied upon for much.

Had something similar happened here in India like Mumbai or Delh, where match was supposed to be played, English players would have ran away . Its been around 4 days and their police isn't able to control attacks here and there .

“E-mail from Inspector Howard Lewis Jones – Match Commander Edgbaston Cricket Ground A lot of planning and preparation has gone into this event. We have worked very closely with the Club and police resources have been set accordingly. The Test Match will not take away resources from policing the wider Birmingham area. West Midlands police recognise the importance of this event and the spectators will be looking forward to this match.” A lot of planning has gone into lots of events, but does a cricket game have to go ahead just because people are looking forward to it. Cricket’s great, you and I like it, but you know, riots are a bit nuts, and they can get out of hand quickly. I mean it is a riot, I know, I’ve seen a dude boarding up his pub and guys travelling around with bandanas. Sure, it’s a largely non-violent – unless you happen to be a police officer – riot, but after two nights of any kid of riot, even a fun one that was designed to get more soft serve ice cream into the city centre, you’d think the test would be cancelled. Plus, riots are generally a bit unpredictable. But the cricket will carry on. Because cricket carries on, in England. I’m not sure if that is a good thing or not, but if these riots were in the subbie, South Africa or the West Indies, I think if their boards released a presser saying that people were looking forward to the game so it will still go on, people might think that was a bit stupid, the ICC might poke their head around, and perhaps the other team might want to leave. That doesn’t seem to have happened, yet. So this is either a brilliant triumph of cricket overcoming angry thugs or a fairly stupid attempt to pretend that a cricket game matters to a city while it struggles to contain it’s violence on the streets. Or both. Or neither. Or, **** who really knows, but I’ve got to go now as I have to get up really early in the morning and catch a train to Brum.
The ECB is a frikkin joke. If that was from BCCI, they would've been torn apart

Yep, this exact same situation panning out in India and we would have forever heard about "bullying India destroying cricket by forcing the poor little Englishmen to play amidst riots" by the English media. According to Cricinfo, there is a huge pall of smoke in the distance behind Edgbaston though not clear if it is riots related. Whatever the case, it is a bit of a joke this game is going ahead amidst riots and people getting murdered (couple of Asian guys were run over by a car)

Damn the bloody rioters...why couldn't they enter Edgbaston today and shake up the game a bit...we could have escaped from a third straight defeat, damn it! Bloody Rioters! Where the fu
