It 's worth remembering that In 1984/5 England toured India. Indira Ghandi was assassinated, there were riots in the streets with Sikhs being targeted (Ghandi was murdered by her Sikh bodyguards). The British cricketing press got caught up in one of the riots. England weren't able to train so they went to Sri Lanka. There was a bomb blast. England still played 2 matches in Sri Lanka before returning to India. They got to Bombay for the first test and were invited to supper with Deputy High Commissioner, Percy Norris. The next morning, 24 hours before the first Test, Norris was shot dead. In between the first and second tests was the Bhopal disaster. Gavaskar should remember this very well. He was the losing captain. England stayed and won the series from 1 down. :headshake:
