We need to get Varun Aaron in the squad immediately!

The thing this bowling line up has been missing is a strike bowler. PK is a revelation, he builds pressure amazingly, but the others are too hit and miss. This guy, Varun Aaron, really has the potential to rattle batsmen, and more importantly, crush the tail. I'd love to see Bresnan try and face some 150kph chin music. Yeah so what if he's only 20 or 21, give him the importance of being in the squad and get him coached. Just make sure he doesn't lose his pace, and I think he could really turn things around. I remember when the great Aussie side of the 90s was starting to look a bit feeble, suddenly this speedster called Brett Lee turned up, to support Warne and McGrath further. We don't have any bowlers of that quality, and probably wont ever, but we need to aspire to be like them to support our batsmen. It is possible. The side only needs a regroup, and I think it can come back stronger than ever. Also I dont see Dravid and Tendu going anytime soon, and the same with Laxman. I think they'll look at the 2013 World Test Championship to step down if anything. So still a got a strong squad, just need to sort out the bowling, which in turn will boost our morale, and have positive effects on our batting. As for the number 1 spot. Very sorry to all the Poms, but I dont see England holding on to it for long. Don't see them beating SL at home, or the Indians next year. Anderson and Broad are pathetic on pitches that don't offer assistance, and one Swann wont be enough. But I do agree, England are the most deserving number 1 in test cricket at this point in time, I think their reign will only last 6 months to a year maximum though.

Isn't ready for international cricket yet. Needs at least one more domestic season and time with India A tours.
No way, conditions in India are demoralising enough as it is. We need to pick up young talent as soon as you see it, he could quite easily turn into another 75 - 80mph bowler because of the runs he'll probably leak at that pace. Very important he is given a chance with the squad, and be made to tour.

The reason I said he isn't ready is due to his injury breakdowns. He is still young, needs to get fitter and stronger. It would be a pity to see him being blooded prematurely and then to lose his way like everyone else.

There's a difference between having him in the squad and overplaying him. He needs to understand the beauty of Test cricket and the skill it requires. He'll only understand that if he's made 12th man or whatever, with Zak by his side.

This. Indian bowlers don't give chance for even that. They continue to shuffle with old tested and failed bowlers. At least take your best young bowler to the tours. Give them practice matches. They will learn. In case they do well in practice matches, then craps like Sree can be replaced. See batting for ex - Kohli and Mukund are waiting. Mukund scored 100 in practice match. What we have in case of bowling? Munaf - who hardly looks like a test bowler.

My biggest worry is that he'll go down the route of Munaf and co. From a bowler capable of touching 90mph' date=' to a 75-80mph bowler. Tragic to see that.[/quote'] That's a possibility with Dhoni as captain..Dhoni loves bowlers like Jogi, PK etc. Easy to keep the wickets against. If a bowler like Aaron comes in the team, we can only hope and pray that Dhoni doesn't misuses him and gives him all the support he needs. If he is not in good books of Dhoni then it will be a struggle for him. Aaron needs to somehow join the :csk: team and then learn from Raina to be in the good books and a sidekick of Dhoni..

Is playing better quality first class cricket for the first time in his career. Let him play a few more of those. And the comparisons with Lee are a little OTT. Lee played a good number of games for the Aus A side before coming to the team. Plus he was a consistent 92-93mph bowler in first class cricket. As for Varun, whatever we have seen so far of him has been in the shorter formats. Needs to play some more first class cricket before getting drafted to the international side. Have to add this though, Varun does seem to know a lot about his bowling, his body, his strengths and weaknesses. Everytime I have seen him talk to the press, comes across as a thinking bowler. If he continues to develop and works on his fitness, could solve a lot of our bowling woes. Also, the BCCI may need to change its idiotic policy of not allowing the bowlers go to MRF pace academy. Lillee has helped shaped Varun's bowling so far and he should have the freedom to keep visiting Lillee as and when he feels like.

He is from Jamshedpur and he can easily become Dhoni's sidekick. :winky:

Trust me he will be the first one to accuse MSD of picking players from his home state the day Varun gets into the team and doesn't do well.
