Why? Because it's a rule. As simple as that. What else can it be? Everything is by the rules in cricket. Isn't it? :dontknow:

Think of the situation when the ball got struck inside the pad. Batsmen would run as many as he wish. Fielders would be running after him like rugby players :hysterical:
