akshayxyz Posted August 17, 2011 Posted August 17, 2011 As I understand you have one internet connection, one laptop (and one more pc?). and you want to share internet connection on these two and more devices.. Why do you need two routers? You can setup your PC (or laptop) to connect to internet connection, and share this internet through wireless router connected to this PC.

akshayxyz Posted August 17, 2011 Posted August 17, 2011 So you can not setup Router A to share internet? Never had to try with two routers - so w/o physical access to it, I cant try/tell much. As for Win7 - if your wireless card ( if there is one on that PC/Laptop) - supports AccessPoint mode - then it is as easy as two commands ( as administrator) - you can keep in a .bat file (run as admin) netsh wlan set hostednetwork mode=allow ssid= key= netsh wlan start hostednetwork Or, you can try Connectify. - I am not sure whether it supports external router. give it a try. On linux networking would have been easier - if you got all the relevant drivers. I had a setup with PC accepting internet from HSIA modem and sharing internet over wireless router connected to this PC using ethernet cable...it should not be very different to setup for modem-replaced-by-routerA....but then it was on linux.

Let me explain I have 2 routers and 2 PC's ( Desktop and Laptop ) and have a VPN subscription. VPN sub has a s/w which can be downloaded to ur PC so just run and u have VPN and be configured on DD-WRT ( 3rd Party s/w ) Routers VPN slows down the internet speed as we know Router A - Cannot be configured with DD-WRT Router B - Can be My ISP gives me 2 IP's So Modem > Switch ( IP 1 ) > Router A > Desktop, Media Player etc ( IP 2 ) > Router B ( with VPN ) to 4 Devices in 4 ports and Wireless Laptop Wireless Laptop can take from Router A or B and have VPN s.w running on it..whatever way I like I am having issues with DD-WRT s/w on Router B so I was wondering, if I completely remove router B from Switch..have the Laptop run the s.w VPN as is, and then connect Router B to that laptop as ad-hoc and run the 4 devices behind it

What type of load are you expecting on the second network? Q3. Which OS do you have on your PC/Laptop. I see that this will be terribly slow. you may get like 5.5/11 net load rate out of this end to end.

Bridge these two and see if you get any success. dial_100 Posted August 17, 2011 Posted August 17, 2011 No. Hold on. You will be bridging your Lan network & new wireless sharing network (that you created using that Video above) on your laptop. The LAN port on your laptop will connect to your WAN port on the Router B as an uplink. Not sure if this will owkr but worth trying.

Rajiv Posted August 21, 2011 Author Posted August 21, 2011 FYI it does work Laptop Connected Wirelessly > Router A Make PPTP VPN Connection and Internet Share > LAN Connection Connect Crossover cable to LAN Port 1 of Router B ( wit DHCP Disabled so it acts as a switch ) and connect devices to Port 2, 3, 4 and/or add switch/router to extend Ports - All Traffic goes through Laptop Must have PC to Dedicate, other option of DD-WRT also available
