Team India Assessment and Ratings

Since the series could get over tomorrow depending on how Dravid bats, let me get in the ratings and assessment in coz I don't think we will see any performance from our players which will change the rating by much. Gambhir - 2. Spent more time on the physio table than on the pitch and didn't do much with the bat. Sehwag - -1. Yup, Sehwag has been so dire that he actually deserves a -ve rating. Has faced 8 balls and dismissed 3 times in those 8 balls plus has looked lethargic and disinterested on the field. Seems like he was on a holiday but was forced to join the tour by BCCI and wants to get out of here ASAP. India couldn't have fared any worse if they had played with just 10 players. Mukund - 3. He actually showed a bit of fight a couple of times and was dropped even after scoring a 100 in a tour match. Dravid - 7. The only batsman who showed up on the tour and one of 2 or 3 guys who actually look interested in playing out there. Would have rated him 8 or 8.5 but deducted 1-1.5 points for plethora of dropped catches at slip which really hurt us. Tendulkar - 4. Got a 50 in one of the innings but has only managed 20s, 30s or 40s in the series. Seemed quite edgy and all that talk about 100th 100 clearly didn't help matters. Was poor in the field and dropped a catch or two as well which was unusual for him. Would love to learn from him why he was having nets with Monty Panesar when the Eng bowling consists of pace/swing bowlers. Somebody like Sajid Mahmood or Ajmal Shehzad would have been a much better nets bowler than Panesar. Laxman - 4. Another disappointment in the batting lineup. Got a couple of 50s but never managed a big innings and to compound matters was out to short balls 3 times this series when he is one of our best batsmen against short bowling. Raina - 2. Did nothing to establish himself in the Test team. We always knew his shortcomings against short pitched stuff but coming a cropper against Swann was a real surprise. Deserved just 1 point for batting and added the second for his energy on the field and for being the best Indian spinner on the tour. Likes of Pujara and Rahane should definitely be given chances as Raina has been given enough opportunities. Yuvraj - 4. Played one match and managed a 50. He's too injury prone and doesn't have the technique suited for Tests. Even in the 50 he managed, he was dropped on 4. Dhoni - 4. Had a poor series as a captain. What surprized me was that he didn't do anything to curb England's run-rate in the 1st Test when we could have drawn the match. He allowed Eng lower order to score at 8-9 an over giving Eng time to bowl us out. Maybe a similar strategy to 8-1 field with bowlers bowling 2 feet outside off could have made things difficult for England. Didn't see anything innovative or inspiring from him though he at least didn't throw in the towel. He tried to take some of the workload off his bowlers by bowling a few overs, and that too more competently than some of our first choice bowlers, and was the only batsman who showed up in the 3rd test. Harbhajan - 1. Couldn't bat, couldn't bowl and couldn't field, like so many of his colleagues. He was more interested in off field issues like filing lawsuit against Mallaya or proclaiming himself as no. 1 spinner in India. Pity he didn't do much on the field. Mishra - 1. When Harbhajan seems like a better option than you and Raina comfortably out-bowls you, you have huge problems. Plus he can't stop bowling no-balls. Seems like this will be his last series in quite a while. Sreesanth - 4. Inconsistent as usual but at least picked some wkts. Disn't look like an intl class bowler but we don't have too much options. Ishant - 5. Bowled his heart out occasionally and looked good in 1st and 2ns Tests but maybe realized that there's no point in putting in all that effort when nobody seems interested in playing. Praveen Kumar - 7. The only other player to show up in the series along with Dravid and to some extent Dhoni. He gave it his all - while bowling marathon spells, fielding at point/covers or while batting. If everyone had given as much effort as him, the series could have been different. Zaheer - 1. Showed up fat and unfit for the series. He would have done himself and the team a service if he had ruled himself out of the series before the 1st Test. RP Singh - 1. Didn't do much at all when he was called into the team from his vacation. BCCI and selectors - 0. They failed to plan and prepare for such a marquee series. They didn't manage player's workload, injuries or schedule. Most of the players showed up unfit to play at a professional level and BCCI allowed that to happen. In fact they allowed Sehwag to simply stroll into the Test team without so much as a practice game after a serious injury and operation!!! BCCI is as much to be blamed as the players for the series fiasco.

OMFG - Indian performance Let me start off by, :wall: :wall: :wall: :wall: :wall: :wall: :wall: :wall: :wall: 7 batting failures in a row? WTF is wrong with this team? Even teams like Zimbabwe and Bangladesh have better odds to perform on their day. How hard can it really be to bat in these conditions?

Have to say I can't recall when we had 7 consecutive batting failures - even during 90s at least our batsmen showed up. And when you think about the recent WI series where we managed to reach 300 just once in 3 Tests, we actually have 12 failures or so at a stretch :omg:

Dravid = 8 ( that too only because he did not have any support) PK = 7 Ishant = 5 Dhoni = 3 Raina = 2 (only because of fielding and general energy levels). Everyone else = 0. Management / selectors = -ive, negative infinity.

yep I am thinking same....Dravid has to get more points than anyone else..even if he dropped catches..if not for his batting we may not even crossed 150 in many innings.. PK I agree performed wholeheartedly but it's known fact he alone can't run thru this England team...
