Lurker Posted August 26, 2011 Posted August 26, 2011 I raise Katra katra jeene do Beautiful song. Sometimes one wonders if folks like Gulzar have figured out life as much as one possibly can. In this song as the wordings go - Pyaasi hoon main pyaasi rahne do. Almost suggesting there is nothing wrong if one is not completely satisfied with life. There will always be a sense of pyaas but its all good. Its tragic but yet not a sad kind. Oh well. Well, gropwing up was awesome mainly as you don't have to worry about life much. Being the only child, I got everything and very happy go lucky. Watching these old movies takes me back, and I actually remember most of those days - like I got out playing cricket on a sunday coz it was start trek on TV, the slap I got from my teacher and how the new shoes were too tight. I was cleaning up my drawer the other day and found a cellphone leather case and the smell was so strong that it reminded me of monsoon season where my mother used to take me to linking road to buy new shoes, just before school started. The sales person used to shout the number and the guy on the open roof used to throw down couple of boxes, you wear him and walk like a fasion show ramp while there are atleast 3 people watching you The times where you took your cycle to "chacha" who fixed punctures and put new rubber brakes and oil up the chains. Time flew by quick Thats powerful Rajeev. It says that you were lukcy enough to have a fantastic childhood which is why you have some lovely memories, specially the one about the smell emanating from the drawer. Fragrance, and songs, have that tendency to draw you way back in time. I can walk by a woman wearing a certain perfume and immediately pulled towards one of the ex-flames. Some songs were so dear to us thanks to connection to somebody that often one can develop a tendency to completely avoid listening to such songs. Type puncture walla chacha reminded me of a similar character we had. He had this little shop nestled right under the staircase of a large building. There outside would be a cycle pump which you could borrow for 10 paise, or get him to pump it for 25 paise. Most of us who grew up in that era remember balancing the pump under the feet of one leg and pumping away :haha:. He also had the most complete collection of cover versions of songs that T-series had just started to come up with. These were songs of Kishore and Lata that were sung by Kumar Sanu and Anuradha Paundwal (Gulshan Kumar knew a way to break laws without being caught). Many an afternoon was spent in his shop listening to classic songs belting out of a puraana Santosh 2 in 1. In a strange way little incidents like those developed a taste of music in me I suppose. xx

From what I have heard, life is so different and great fun[/quote'] Boarding school, or hostel, is unique and very different. There is so much freedom as well as responsiblity that it really does shape you as a person. It is one of those experiences that is definitely recommended. Personally I had some of my best moments up there.
bulbul Posted August 26, 2011 Posted August 26, 2011 This thread reminds me of watching Movies in VCR...we used watch same movies 2/3 times as family members have all watch an different times....This was in my Grandfathers place.Only DD1 coming at that time...miss those days when waiting eagerly for Sunday evenings for a movie... Used to feel very sad after the as have to wait one more week to watch another one... we got TV in our own home 1995 that also with a large Dish..with few chnnels coming free air....still remember the odd hours watching different language movies.... But the most vivid memory I still have is @ Engineering hostel... Our hostel warden didn't allowed cable TV ..so even in 1999/2003 we didn't able to see any other channels except DD1 in hostel...100s of people sit together and Watched Rangoli ,Chitrahar etc... Every saturady we are allowed to watch DVD..around 4/5 movies we used To watch whole night...
