had a pressure cooker disaster. i was trying to make dal and i think i added too much water. there was a loud noise and there was dal all over the kitchen :( just cleaned it up. cooking is the WORST.

i donno if u people have these things under the cookers, there something called gasket, the black rubber kinda band under the cap of the cooker, according to me that causes all the problems

are you serious? rubber is one of the most important thing to keep the vessel airtight. Just keep the whistle/pores clean and not overload the cooker. And if still things go wrong, you have the safety valve - which is what I guess exploded in Monisha's case.

He ment the rubber might've gone hard and not flexible enough to give proper sealing.

glad you're safe :) I've heard number of such cases that have happened with Prestige pressure cookers than Hawkins .

Usually the valve going bad causes the explosion. If pressure increases in the cooker due to any reason, the valve should melt but that doesnt happen and BOOM.
That sort of explosion is rare and dangerous, I am talking about valve-melt-exploding only. Happened to me couple of years back.

^At ICF one can debate endlessly over just about anything. So how was the Dal Monisha?
