Rahul Dravid Posted August 25, 2011 Posted August 25, 2011 IÃÎ going to talk about true freedom. Freedom we do have, and freedom we donÃÕ have. First of all, the freedom of speech. There is a major debate among people varying through different countries on how far or effective this freedom should be, some may believe that this form of freedom should be limited, some may say this form of freedom should be used to itÃÔ fullest. I've heard people say Freedom Of Speech should be limited because sometimes we may end of hurting people emotionally or hurt their confidence. Personally, I laugh at this thought, because if somebody is hurt over something I say, then thatÃÔ not my problem, it is something they must go see a therapist or a counselor about, because really, nobody should be hurt over words, I am not a god- so you shouldnÃÕ take my words personally. LetÃÔ say you call me gay, and I would laugh it off, because I know IÃÎ not a homosexual, and obviously you are just trying to bring me down, or you just donÃÕ know me too well, so why on earth should I be upset over your words? ItÃÔ not like words and statements I say is going to hurt you psychically. Emotionally? Maybe. But is that my problem?.. Is it my problem that growing up, you lived in a sheltered environment? Is it my problem that your parents didnÃÕ allow you to watch movies beyond a PG-13 rating?.. Is it my fault that you weren't allowed to play games that had mature content?.. Is it my fault that you couldnÃÕ listen to music that had explicit material? No. Your parents kept you hidden from the truth, hidden from reality for a long time, that now, you cannot handle the truth, so you believe that the constitutional right (applicable to certain countries) should not be granted, because your parents made those mistakes? There is not a chance in hell that I am going to give up my constitutional right because some random person is going to cry and moan over some meaningless words. What i say, what i do, what i believe, or what i want has nothing to do with your ideal life, nothing I do is going to physically harm you. I have the right to believe what I want to, but no, I do not have the right to force my beliefÃÔ onto you. In my point of view,Freedom of Speech should be granted to itÃÔ fullest power, it should not be limited in schoolÃÔ, think about it. When you were in school, how many of you sat in government classes, learning that we had these bill of rights, and our teachers told us we had free speech and what not. But then when we attempted to use free speech, we got punished. So suddenly, these teachers could not practice what they preached, suddenly, once we step foot in school, we became prisoners, we lose all of our rights?.. The clothes we wear are disputed? Once I had worn a t-shirt of another college in a university in another state. It was a t-shirt of Florida University, and abbreviated were the bold letters F-U, and right underneath it said, Florida University. Then, I was forced to either turn the shirt inside out, or to go back home and wear another t-shirt, and I was also told to never wear that t-shirt in university ever again. Was it my fault, that the teacher has a mind that believes every word he seeÃÔ is bad, or maybe he was a college football fan and didnÃÕ like Florida Uni? I donÃÕ know the main reason, but with what right or logic can he take away my freedom and tell me what to do- related to his personal perspective and personal belief? Should they be allowed to control and manipulate us using the rules that they personally make? Now this is invasion of freedom. Is it right for a teacher to treat me differently because of my sex ? Because of my ethnicity ? Because of the clothes I wear? Because of my color? Because of my beliefs? Also, i wrote lyrics, and I used to make my fellow friends or college-mates read my lyrics. It got passed around and ended up in the hands of the principal, who took me into his office and warned me that if I continue writing these, I would face consequences. Again, my rights are taken away because the principal didnÃÕ like a certain genre of music, or didnÃÕ appreciate my art. At work, you have to abide by their rules, your freedom cannot be used, which then basically means that your employer can fire you if he doesnÃÕ like how you look, speak, dress, or if he just doesnÃÕ like you for your race, or sexual preference. Is that fair? So if your employer dislikes black people, your out of a job, because of the way you were born, or maybe he doesnÃÕ like that he has seen you with another guy, so when you show up to work, you are fired for being a Homosexual. Or maybe, you are Catholic, and your employer is Jewish, and he finds that out and fires you because of your belief. Where is the freedom? There is also the Freedom of Religion, but if you think about this, even that is taken away at some points in our life, at school, at work, you basically have to become a whole different identity. You have to become what they want you to become, not what you are or you yourself want to become. Where is the freedom? So much for the bullshit Freedom right? This is why we hope for a change. We ourselves have to get up, we have to go out, we have to get active, we have to spread the word, we should stop complaining and rather do something in order to get what we have been supposedly ÃÈetting for years. We have to stop asking the government to listen to us, we have to DEMAND it. We have a right for freedom, and we are not getting it, so GET UP AND DEMAND THE FREEDOM THAT YOU DESERVE.
