jairamesh
this is ridiculous. raina making an unbeaten double hundred, some other scrubs making huge scores, jadeja making a triple hundred. this is exactly why its impossible to take the ranji trophy seriously. crap bowling attacks, batting friendly wickets, and a standard of cricket which is far below the international game why would anyone in india even want to be a bowler... just a cursory glance at the ranji scoreboards and it looks like a bowlers graveyard at every ground, too many 500plus innings. Not only it ruins bowlers' career, but it makes it impossible to separate the wheat from the chaff regarding the batsmen. Though rules encourage to post huge 1st innings scores but it's ridiculous the frequency 500plus scores. BCCI need to fast track the green and bouncy pitch preparation rules to 1st class. BeautifulGame
The problem when u prepare a seaming wicket the ball swings for the day and half and eases out as a flat one. This means the team batting second usually bats on a flat pitch as the pitch eases on 2 and 3 and they usually look to bat the opposition out due to first innings points.Like UP-Punjap match for instance. With just 4 day tests winning is anyway unlikely. Its a sort of catch 22 situation IMO. What we need is a different points system (much concentration on winning and not on 1st innings ) and 5 day tests as well as atleast 4 days to recover. If these are 5-day tests and if there were incentives for winning most Ranji matches would have been results rather than boring draws as it looks now. Link to comment
rajmarie
But before I go' date='just a reminder.Goel picked up a wicket but Bhajji remained wicketless and great offspinner was questioning why was he dropped before this game :hatsoff:[/quote'] :giggle: Link to comment
rkt.india
Sudeep Tyagi bowled a little better today...better rhythm..coming back from an injury after 10 months... Link to comment
saneindian
RPS bowled much better in this match compared to what he was bowling in England. Pace around 133-134 today, getting it to swing and putting in a lot of effort. Good to see that. Last season he was bowling 125-126 with no purpose. Hopefully he keeps on improving and works hard on his fitness. Chawla was impressive in the second innings, bowled with a lot of control and turned his leggies. UP look like a strong contennder for the title this year. Strong batting up and perhaps the best bowling unit. On helpful pitches, their bowling would be devastating. Link to comment
Number
^ RP does have a good chance of getting back with the kind of pace attack we have now. He is 26 and does have skills, should put efforts on his fitness and stamina. Link to comment

msb1991
If Tyagi becomes fully fit, ie, not bowling at severely reduced pace, UP have a very strong attack. Link to comment
saneindian
Assam vs J&K was affected by weather as was Hyderabad vs Jharkhand. Two matches in the elite league, UP vs Punjab and Rajasthan vs Karnataka were quite close to outright wins. Overall not a bad start. Home teams do take the safe approach with the season openers. As we move further in the prelim rounds, we will see lot more sporting/seam-swing friendly tracks especially by teams like Punjab (Mohali), Haryana (at Rohtak), UP (at Meerut), Karnataka (at Mysore), Baroda (at theMotibagh stadum), AP (at Anantpur), HP (at Dharmshala), Jharkhand (at Ranchi) etc Link to comment

Pagalpanti
Honestly not only pitches are to be blamed. There needs to be some rules set in, its ridiculous when a team feels the need to score 600 for a 3 day game, its obvious they are not looking for win, personal milestones and more points even if its a draw. BCCI should bring in restrictions, so that more results are enforced. Link to comment
Sidhoni
And the 2 results are also far too one-sided Link to comment
the_indian_fan
i have a suggestion to reduce the no of draws & promote more attacking cricket in ranji. hope the bcci follows it simply kill the points awarded for draws & get rid of the 1st innings lead rule. that rule is leading to 500+ scores by both teams in the 1st innings & the matches being decided on the 1st innings leads have a new system where wins = 2 points draw = 0 points loss = 0 points with both draws & losses giving 0 points, teams will be forced to be more aggressive & look to play out for wins. hope someone from the bcci reads this post & implements my suggestion Link to comment

kabira
The point system is at fault. Most teams go for first innings lead and are happy with 3 points. The difference between outright win and win through lead is just 2 points. You are not going to get results at times in 4 day games. Positive run rate, positive bowling should be rewards. The Asian Championship had very good point system IIRC. Link to comment
