(btw, why iMac, why not macbookpro?) People have their own preferences based on their profession/hobbies/use-cases. So, it is not necessary you will be as satisfied as the people whose advice you will follow. mainly browsing, and looking for PC upgrade anyways Apple's 27" screen is just awesome, clean graphics and the fact that windows ( if needed ) can work with dual boot. A Simple Screen, Keyboard and mouse solution ( I had enough of wiring ) and as others said no virus, reboots and from what I know everything is superior in a mac

akshayxyz Posted August 29, 2011 Posted August 29, 2011 I would say, if it is in your budget, go for it. Looks perfect for your usecase. It is pretty low hassle thing (in terms of time spent troubleshooting), there will be a slight learning curve, but its not steep. Also, it will be different from your previous machines, you will get to see/try new stuff. Remember you might have to spend more money in future on s/w and accessories. Also, you won't get full range of games - which I doubt, concerns you at all. You can definitely build much powerful Linux machine within that much money. But unless you don't know what you want to do with additional power - it is a waste, isn't it? And anyway, you don't use much power for typical home-PC use. And however smooth/timely Ubuntu/Windows updates are, you will spend some time troubleshooting - in the long run. Linux is primarily for getting most out of your hardware - performance wise, and also if you like to have full control (regardless of how much you actually control).

Mac is really good with what you are looking for.
