carnish Posted December 13, 2011 Posted December 13, 2011 I can assure you one thing' date=' that technically Rahane is better than Virat. Virat's technique, specially against the moving balls leaves a lot to be desired. Uthappa? you got to be kidding yaar. How can you even think of comparing a cow-lasher with a proper cricket bat?[/quote'] Thats because India will play most of its games in INDIA where the conditions don't test the batsmen... problem is as we saw in the England series rahane was pretty much stuck for too long not being able to rotate the strike... his strike rate took a good bashing... unless he sorts that problem out we can't afford to play him in good batting conditions against tougher opposition... it was only because england were so poor in that series with bat that we won all the games... otherwise even we had not batted so well in that series apart from one-odd game... With Utthapa there is always the chance of getting a good start and with him strike rate will never be a problem... plus utthappa aint a cow-lasher.... even he is decent with technique.. his problem had been his attitude which off-late he has improved as resembled by some high scores in domestic cricket

How can you even think of comparing a cow-lasher with a proper cricket bat?[/quote'] Plus, don't even compare Rahane with Virat... VIRAT is the next SACHIN of Indian cricket :icflove: Rahane might have better technique but unless he can score those singles he is of no use in ODIs in India... and since we play most games at home... we can't keep a player just because we hope he will perform well when we play away in ENG and AUS even if he fails like parthiv in INDIA
carnish Posted December 13, 2011 Posted December 13, 2011 so play rahane on tough conditions where his replacement will struggle and when he gets chance of playing on easier tracks dont play him? good justice :P I never said that... point is we cant carry a player even if he performs mediocore in INDIA cause here we play most games..he has to improve in INDIA... and it isnt even sure he will perform in testing conditions because having talent is something but using that is different... Rahane to have his place in the Indian team has to perform in Sub-continent first and then in ENG or Aus... and if he fails to do that he doesnot deserve his place in the side..
The Dark Horse Posted December 13, 2011 Posted December 13, 2011 Rahane is twice the player Vijay will ever be.Both Mukund and Rahane have more potential and are far more superior technically than Vijay. +1, I think Mukund will only improve, seeing how he played in England.
MCcricket Posted December 13, 2011 Posted December 13, 2011 Technique is a foundation which generally gives u consistency, Manjrekar had the best technique, could not rotate strikes, score runs, dominate, he would defend perfectly with all the technique a half volley back to the bowler, lol.Rahane might have better technique, but Virat has better strokes, can rotate strike, sees the ball pretty early, mentally stronger, he could be more successfull.

He smoked an awesome century against the Safricans in their first ODI series in India. :aha:

He scored 72, 56, 43, 49 and 52 in five matches in Sharjah, and was the Man of the Series. He was the Man of the Series against South Africa too. He got another two 50s in the next four matches in Australia; but his decline began after that He did play some important knocks for India in Tests, to save a few Tests.
MCcricket Posted December 13, 2011 Posted December 13, 2011 Manjrekar TEST S/R 38 , ODI IN 60 'S LOL, was rated very high turned out to be a dud, what I am implying is that is not the sole criteria, most people wrote of Sehwag, Chopra, Das had good techniques , where are they.Laxman has his own game they said he wont succeed , same for Gambhir, this is for people who are technique and stats obsessed, means nothing if u dont have class, temperament ala Badrinath.Rohit Sharma has the technique, enough time to play the quicks, can raise the tempo, rotate strike , Virat not the best technique but very gifted, domestic numbers dont mean much.

In fact, I very much agree with you. There is a whole bunch of cricketers who's not done much with great techniques, and there's another bunch who's done pretty well for their country with their flaws and have performed when it matters. My point was about Manjrekar being a really good bat for a couple of years, where he played some really good knocks for the country (The 218 in Pakistan, for instance). His ODI SR was low, but his average of 33 is not too bad, specially if you compare it with someone like Sachin's over an equal number of matches.

Manjrekar once wrote where , why he failed, he said he was soo obsesssed with technique that he lost the plot, cricket is about scoring runs, taking wickets not about looking good,a half volley has to go for a boundary most times for any batsmen worth his salt, a long hop the same,Tendulkar went thru a phase which was compunded by injuries some other problems where he also did not play his game, his s/r , ave went down , but he was good enough to get back , learn ,took him couple of years, even in his bad phase he was as good as most ave batsmen.
Old guy Posted December 13, 2011 Posted December 13, 2011 I never said that... point is we cant carry a player even if he performs mediocore in INDIA cause here we play most games..he has to improve in INDIA... and it isnt even sure he will perform in testing conditions because having talent is something but using that is different... Blue Panther Posted December 13, 2011 Posted December 13, 2011 Rahane can actually do well in Aus. He is basically a backfoot player which will suit on bouncy tracks. Also his bat speed is ideal for an opener who plays new ball. I would say he could be a ideal opener for us if he is asked to open. I would definitely say he is more suite for test matches for sure.
carnish Posted December 13, 2011 Posted December 13, 2011 he already performed very well in england for debut series in which india was under pressure! we got good starts cos of him (which we didn't in test matches) and then he also performed against england when they toured india this guy is complete player Look at what i wrote.. he isnt very good at rotating strikes..so he will struggle in subcontinent... i never denied that he played well in england...and against england in india...he did but his SR is not that good venue score SR HYDERABAD 15(41) 36 DELHI 14(15) 93 MOHALI 91(104) 87 MUMBAI 20(37) 54 KOLKATA 42(61) 68 delhi he got out too early...got a six and a four...so forget that... Mohali we all know has bounce and here even the crap english batting scored 298... so he played a good knock and has the only decent SR in the whole series... every where else he has struggled to get on with the scoring rates...kohli on the other hand is pretty good in rotating the strike and therefore will be more successful in the SC than what rahane can be..that was my argument with vamos before you barged in giving a stupid comment about justice and injustice

ONCE IN FOUR YEARS... can we keep a player in the side who can perform good once in four years?? NO.... he has to be able to perform well in INDIA also...
MCcricket Posted December 13, 2011 Posted December 13, 2011 Look at what i wrote.. he isnt very good at rotating strikes..so he will struggle in subcontinent... i never denied that he played well in england...and against england in india...he did but his SR is not that good venue score SR HYDERABAD 15(41) 36 DELHI 14(15) 93 MOHALI 91(104) 87 MUMBAI 20(37) 54 KOLKATA 42(61) 68 delhi he got out too early...got a six and a four...so forget that... carnish Posted December 13, 2011 Posted December 13, 2011 Agree ' date=' he might be too defensive, cannot rotate strike, hopefully with confidence he gets better, I RATE ROHIT, kohli, murali, Mukund, Pujara ,as they play like they belong ,Rahane seem to be a domestic giant needs to grow as a bat to be successful at int level.[/quote'] exactly, not sure about mukund in ODIs as i havent seen him play list-A games or ODIs but he is good for tests... murali vijay though is crap.... everyone else are in line to be second only to sachin in Indian cricketing history... rahane is the next badrinath :giggle:

cricketman Posted December 13, 2011 Posted December 13, 2011 Rahane is a class act. I am really disappointed he didn't get more chances ahead of freaking Parthiv Patel this past WI series. Would like to see a lot more of him in the future.
