Lurker Posted September 1, 2011 Posted September 1, 2011 So I returned the couple of laptops as I hop from my old company to the new one. The evening was spent wiping off the hard drives, copying over the stuff that may come in handy, and sometime stopping to pause a second and remember the whole scenario around which a certain presentation was done, an issue fixed, a subordinate praised (or appraised). As somebody who has been doing gigs like this for a decade or so it should come naturally, but still doesn't to me. The whole act of cleaning desks, shaking hands, sending emails, godspeeds and hugs still gets me. And the final drive off the company parking lot often comes with a liberating feeling as also a tinge of sadness. Maybe its the softie in me? Or maybe time still has not turned me cynical? So how attached do you get? To people? Places? Things??

Ram Posted September 1, 2011 Posted September 1, 2011 It hurts a bit that day, especially when you hand in your ID and cant get back into the building. However, I’d rather be sad at leaving some place, than be relieved and happy. That means I have had a good time there.

I once worked at a place for almost a year, then went back to the same location, same floor just opposite aisle. It was at a time when I used to be lot serious at work and was practically roaming around. All the memories at all the spot came running back to me. Sense of deja vu like time stands still.

I still visit my old room-mates often and many of them still live in the same house that we used to live in. In fact I went and stayed over for the weekend at my ex-roomie's home only 2weeks ago. :cantstop: It's a very weird feeling because you're so used to the surroundings, the geography of the place. You exactly know where light switches are (the first big challenge whenever you move to a new place), you know where the sugar is, in the kitchen closet etc. But somehow, you feel like you sort of don't belong there anymore. P.S; Why am I so senti today? :((

Alchemist Posted September 1, 2011 Posted September 1, 2011 It happens. A part of me is still attached to the city where I worked for past 4 years. I changed the job around 9 months ago but still sometimes see me driving through the old city.
Desi Cartman Posted September 1, 2011 Posted September 1, 2011 Its a sad feeling when you handover the ID and all of a sudden you cant go back to the floor -desk where you worked for months and years. In one second you become an outsider. When I resigned from my last job I got 4 weeks paid break :--D. So I was excited and happy touring South-East Australia. It was awesome as I spent 3 weeks just driving wherever I wanted. When i joined the new job I realized that I was in the same building as old job, just on a different floor for a lot more money :--D

The playground we used to play in was gigantic when we were small, all of a sudden we don't fit any more.
akshayxyz Posted September 2, 2011 Posted September 2, 2011 Specific to jobs - I have changed so many times that apart from spending too much time taking backup of every bit and byte, I detach easily - I stay in touch with only select few. But yes, later in free times I do get nostalgic moments about every place I have been.

While buying a house it is always recommended to give an impression that you shall take care of the house just the way it was kept. Its a human factor but for many of us it can make a world of difference between who to sell the house.

Rahul Dravid Posted September 3, 2011 Posted September 3, 2011 i finished my intern at red hat 3 days back, and when i was leaving and saying goodbyes felt very emotional... didn't think id feel that... now the feeling is kind of gone, but that one moment while leaving i had a lump on my throat..

It reminds me of old bombay a lot Vow, what a coincidence My folks kinda met like that in Income Tax Department. Fort office and their evening date - used to have south indian food in one of the udipi restaurants and goto movies, BST, Train travelling. Actually, not much changed in dating - people still do the same but on a higher scale. When I imagine how it must be in delhi during that time, those scenes from chashme buddhor come in mind..some karol bagh type garden, under a shade and romantic words like " Hi Flower "
