Should Dhoni Bat Higher?

Watching the England game today I found myself wondering, along with the commentators it seems, why Dhoni comes in as low as he does. He posseses a dominating style of play not unlike Sehwag, but all too often comes in too late to make an impact, or in todays case, was forced to curtail his natural aggresive style in the face of a faltering batting lineup. He is the kind of plyer who can unsettle a bowling lineup, as well as provide experience for a younger partner. I would think that a player like him would be more suited to coming in at third or fourth, whether to steady the ship, or continue to apply pressure. With Tendulkar, Dravid and VVS ending their careers soon, this will become more of an issue in a batting lineup that cries out for more experience at the top, and it seems to me that Dhoni is the man to provide that experience. No he is fine where he is, he has enough on his plate already. If he were to come up the order regularly then he I think he would need to either give up the captaincy or the keeping. He is not superhuman and cannot take on too much burden. More than anything the likes of Raina and Kohli need to take on more responsibility and help out their skipper.

That's why I have never considered him to be an FTB. even in test matches he comes down late so the scoring options would be lesser but he does not look uncomforatable or ugly and unlike sehwag, he looks to apply himself. And mind you, he's one of the very few in the younger generation who can handle the short pitch stuff pretty well.

why? the opponents are already getting off to good starts. but if you think about it its not a bad idea. i mean what's the difference between 20/3 and 20/4, might as well get it over with when the ball is new and minimize the damage wrt the number of balls faced instead of coming down the order and prodding and dancing like a headless chicken around the crease for a better part of eight or nine overs completely killing any hint of momentum that we might have built.

If I bat up the order, it puts more pressure on younger batsmen lower down the order. When I am at number five or six, I can maneuver with the lower half. You need somebody who can chat with the youngsters in the middle and bring in a sense of calmness. Having an experienced man down the order really helps.

No, when the ball is moving he is a sitting duck unfortunately. Even he admitted by the time he came in the ball stopped moving like the way it did in the beginning

He did not look like a sitting duck in any of the innings. The English have been bowling very well and even players like Laxman have struggled. He played decently in the 2 tours to south africa.
