Test cricket fast bowling (plus fielding) is endurance thing. I do not think effects of carb loading can last that long... for ODI and T20 it can work. Btw - is Creatine legal in sports? If so, then it might work better/longer than carb-loading. R-ALA also supposed to help push harder and is an excellent anti-oxidant too. Also, too much muscle is also not sustainable for test fast bowling.
My point was about carb-loading not as a match-day strategic diet but as a food lifestyle which totally misses out on even the daily minimum intake of proteins. By the time you are fifteen, this lifestyle has fashioned your body and after that, the tendency is to look at protein as a "special" thing.

And India has like 20 times the population of these countries so WTF happened to all the fast bowlers?
Diet, culture, fitness, training all have a huge part to do with it.

Not anymore an excuse, there are more non vegetarians in India than the whole population of Pakistan. Agreed we dont have fast bowling culture but this excuse has been used for a long time, BCCI needs to do something about this but I know nothing will happen. What about fitness and training? I see tons of Indian kids going to gym regularly to impress girls :giggle:

^ There's a big difference between what we call non-vegetarians in India which is essentially anyone who _will_ eat meat and making meat a part of your diet. Which means making protein the centerpiece of every meal. Most 'non-veges' eat meat only twice or thrice a week if not once.

Whatever it is, with all the money BCCI has I am pretty sure they could get 100 young boys who want to play cricket and make an academy where they can be prepared to become a fast bowler from a young age and pay for their diet/training.

From what little we know about the BCCi it considers the maximizing of profits its biggest priority and a program like this would only add numbers to the wrong side of the ledger.

End of the day majority NOT ALL but the majority of athletes in strength sports eat lean beef in hockey, football, american football, baseball, cricket, tennis, boxing and wrestling. India is the one country where this is obviously an issue.

lol, yea i know it was just wishful thinking on my part. They keep on saying pace doesn't matter and focus on line and length... as if fast bowlers can't be accurate and fast at the same time :giggle:

People from Kerala takes plenty of beef .Well that may be the reason for a small state like Kerala is producing so many good athelets and footballers B/w i think Sreesanth is a veggie
Good footballers? Late Cut is Brazilian Mallu. Kerala can't take credit for that. Anyways, more than diet, I think its the practice of climbing up and down coconut trees at the drop of a hat that makes the Keralites fit and athletic.

Blue Panther, Why are you discussing diets rich in testosterone and aphrodisiacs??? Holding was talking about diets for fast bowlers, not porn stars.
:hysterical:

yea i missed it deliberately:winky: but seriously are u saying that beef has more testosterone or help in producing more testosterone than lamb/mutton/pork/chicken etc can u show me any article where it is said so.
Simply put meat != testosterone. Its not the meat in beef, chicken etc that boosts the testosterone levels. It is the fat content. More importantly the saturated fat content. And if you go further the cholestrol content in the fat composition. You wanna bump testosterone BP stop wasting money on beef and oysters, and start chugging full eggs, raw coconut oil and even herbs like fenugreek. Red meat, if a person eats it, should be taken for its creatine content and the amino profile. Got nothing to do with tests levels. xxx

Actually Lanka and Bangladesh also never produced great fast bowlers and they too eat meat ,the only mystery is Pakistan as North Indian share same genetics with them ,the only difference is their diet so I too believe that diet has something to do with it I don't think cow beef is available in North India easily But buffalo meat is available in muslim area's ,apart from that some hi fi stores sell imported canned beef at very high rate
If you go to North India Goat meat(Gosht) is as popular as it is in Pakistan which BTW easily beats beef consumption there too. Most of the non- Brahmin community eat goat/chicken/eggs on a regular basis(albeit not daily) .So the difference in genetics, diet and culture cannot be an EXCUSE to produce a decent fast bowlers

The food habits of a nation : The Hindu : Front Page started by Obscured By Clouds 5 yrs ago a href="http://www.hindu.com/2006/08/14/stories/2006081403771200.htm"Some surprising findings (to me anyway)ullionly 31 per cent of Indians are vegetarians./lilithe lowest proportion of vegetarian families are in coastal States such as Kerala (two per cent), Tamil Nadu (eight per cent), Andhra Pradesh (four per cent), Orissa (eight per cent) and Bengal (three per cent). Most land-locked States, especially in the west and north, are places with the highest proportion of vegetarian families: Rajasthan (63 per cent), Haryana (62 per cent), Punjab (48 per cent), Uttar Pradesh (33 per cent), Madhya Pradesh (35 per cent) and Gujarat (45 per cent)./liliWidespread support for prohibition. 73% say the govt should ban consumption of alcohol./li/ul/a http://forums.sulekha.com/forums/obscured/The-food-habits-of-a-nation-The-Hindu-Front-Page.htm --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The word "Vegetarian" is a derivation of the Latin word `vegetari `which actually means to enliven. Vegetarianism in India is a popular belief and practice in the subcontinent. The states with a high proportion of vegetarians are Gujarat (69 percent), Rajasthan (60 percent), Punjab-Haryana (54 percent) and Uttar Pradesh (50 percent). At medium-high levels are Madhya Pradesh (45 percent), Karnataka (34 percent), and Maharashtra (30 percent). Medium-low levels prevail in Tamil Nadu (21 percent). Andhra Pradesh (16 percent) and Assam (15 percent), and low vegetarian levels is found in Kerala, Orissa and West Bengal. http://www.indianetzone.com/38/vegetarianism_india.htm

A good example is the Army which again has majority of folks from Punjab, Haryana, HP, Rajasthan, UP and if you go to Army mess be it officer or non officer, it has mutton or chicken on menu daily( Even though when they go back home they will be eating a more vegetarian diet). The point is beef diet (the rest is easily available) alone cannot be reason that a person with same set of environment can not emulate. I believe the mindset also plays a great role, a Pakistani bowler knows with 130KPH he will never be seen or picked while avg speed of India bowlers is 125KPH .So for a Pakistani bowler only if he starts with 150 kph will he get under the scanner, which definitely is not the criteria for an Indian Bowler.

What about this post led you to believe that I was all for carb-loading?
Carb-loading FTW! B->
And if you were at all unclear, my later posts on this thread should have made it apparent where I stand on this issue. Why would you need further clarification?
