julianlev Posted September 18, 2011 Posted September 18, 2011 Is it just me or is the CL unbalanced in favour of IPL sides This year there are four IPL sides participating South Africa, England and Australia are sending two each The West Indies, New Zealand and Sri Lanka are sending one Anyone else see the problem here? Why does the fourth ranked IPL team get the nod ahead of the second ranked Indies, Lanka or New Zealand team? Despite being the champions in their countries, the Aces, Ruhunu and T&T have to play a qualifier to even get into the CL while the Mumbai Indians, who werent even in the final of the IPL 2011 get a free passage to the main tournament Ideally the IPL should send two teams like everyone else, and the runners up from the Indies, Lanka and New Zealand should enter as well. Of course, this is if you forget the BCCIs "rupee pile" of influence :hatsoff:

Start playing each other even before CL to determine common rankings and determine who make it? Doesn't make sense to say send two teams from each country cause IPL is not an Indian domestic league. It has international players in numbers unmatched by other leagues.

ICC provides window to the tourney. Maybe this is one reason why people can complain about the equal participation. Sure it's a commercial tournament based mainly on IPL and BCCI. But then again in that case ICC shouldn't have reduced the time for international matches for this tournament by providing a separate window in the FTP.

The ICC window is gap in the FTP which BCCI has convinced ICC to incorporate. Individual boards are still free to play cricket during that time. Boards which dont have players playing in CLT20 can still schedule international cricket then. CLT20's major revenue stream is the Indian fan, hence more IPL teams. If it was English or Oz fans, you would see more teams from there.

If two boards decide to schedule a series during that time, then ICC cant do anything about it. Its just a placeholder achieved by BCCI's pressure on ICC.
